  • A Wealth of Good Health Info

I discovered Shanah when I started intermittent fasting last year and through that season, she helped me find answers to the health challenges I’ve faced in my life in the past few decades! I am so excited about her new teaching on Cortisol and Circadian rhythms. Based on what she’s revealed so far on her podcast, I think that issue might be the missing piece to solve my most pressing health struggles right now. Highly recommend !

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 281- The Role of Keto and Fasting in Cancer Care: Hope, Nuance, and Real-Life Practice with Martha Tettenborn
Q: What are you seeing now in terms of how patients respond to metabolic interventions alongside conventional cancer care?
Patients often achieve better quality of life, maintained or improved energy, and toleration of treatment improves when nutrition and timing are individualized. Outcomes vary by cancer type and stage, but a combined approach tends to yield the best overall experience.
Episode 282- Rapid Fire Metabolism Q&A: Challenging What You Think You Know About Weight Loss, Fatigue & Blood Sugar
Q: What's harder on your metabolism: eating too much or eating too often?
Both can be harmful, but frequent small intakes can cause repeated insulin spikes and disrupt hormonal signals like leptin. A strategy of fewer, well-balanced meals with adequate protein and fiber tends to support metabolic health more effectively for many people.
Episode 282- Rapid Fire Metabolism Q&A: Challenging What You Think You Know About Weight Loss, Fatigue & Blood Sugar
Q: What simple trick helps manage sugar cravings?
Stabilizing blood sugar through meal composition—e.g., high fiber and protein with healthy fats—can blunt spikes, and using a product like Good Idea before meals can reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes by about 25-30% when paired with meals.
Episode 282- Rapid Fire Metabolism Q&A: Challenging What You Think You Know About Weight Loss, Fatigue & Blood Sugar
Q: Can late-night TV and scrolling impact your blood sugar and hormones more than dessert?
There is no hard percentage data, but circadian disruption from night-time light exposure can raise cortisol, suppress melatonin, and worsen blood sugar control. The guidance is to limit bright screens at night and align activities with natural light cycles to support circadian health.
Episode 282- Rapid Fire Metabolism Q&A: Challenging What You Think You Know About Weight Loss, Fatigue & Blood Sugar
Q: Can someone be overweight and undernourished at the same time?
Yes, many people carry excess body fat while being deficient in essential nutrients due to a diet high in processed foods, which can lead to malnutrition despite obesity. The key is to move toward more nourishing, whole foods, increase fiber and protein, and reduce highly processed options to support insulin sensitivity and overall health.
