  • World renowned researchers giving practical advice for the average person

Can’t recommend these two highly enough! They each have produced decades of high quality exercise research, and spoken on numerous podcasts and other events. They provide realistic advice targeted to the average person, not just experienced exercisers.

As a sport medicine physician, I recommend their podcasts to my patients who want to improve their fitness, and it’s great to now be able to hear their voices together!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Strength Training for Everybody!
Q: What's the minimum effective dose for a complete beginner just starting resistance training?
The hosts suggest a practical entry point of 10–15 minutes per session, two times a week, focusing on bodyweight movements, light resistance bands, and simple movements like wall push-ups, with options to accumulate short sessions throughout the day to meet a gradual, sustainable volume.
Much Ado About Zone 2
Q: Does 220 minus age apply equally to men and women for calculating maximum heart rate, and how should this be used in setting Zone 2 targets?
The 220 minus age formula is the most common estimate but has substantial individual variability. It provides a rough average, and for precise training zones you may need direct testing or a lab-informed approach rather than relying strictly on that formula.
