  • Science for the Win

I appreciate the accessibility of this podcast, which is grounded in actual science and the latest studies of obesity medications and treatments. We need more doctors who are willing to help patients distinguish the nonsense that floats around online from the actual science and no one I’ve found is doing this better than the Nadolsky brothers.

  • i tried

I started listening for glp-1 guidance and I wanted to like it but most of the episodes feel like a waste of time and two brothers competing to be the smartest rather than actually sharing info with their audience. not to mention the constant interrupting. the whole thing is unprofessional and hard to listen to

  • Love this show!

My daughter has PCOS and has begun trizepatide and this podcast has been a great resource for information about Glp1’s, metabolic issues, weight loss, etc, etc. The style is laid back and interesting to listen to. Thanks, guys, for spreading great, science-backed information and sharing your personal experiences treating obesity and metabolic issues!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Do GLP-1 Medicines Actually Cause Muscle Loss? New Research With Dr. Henning Langer
Q: How did the human component complement the animal data?
In humans, despite weight loss, there was no significant drop in objective muscle strength measures like hand grip or knee extension; there is still need for longer-term and larger studies, but early data are reassuring clinically.
Do GLP-1 Medicines Actually Cause Muscle Loss? New Research With Dr. Henning Langer
Q: What motivated you to study GLP-1 drugs and skeletal muscle directly?
We were looking at the STEP-1 trial signals showing substantial lean mass loss and wanted to see if muscle tissue itself was truly affected, separating changes in lean mass from actual muscle loss and function.
GLP-1 Genetics: Predicting Weight Loss and Side Effects With 23andMe's Dr. Adam Auton
Q: What did you find about the GLP-1 and GIP receptors in relation to weight loss and side effects?
A signal in the GLP-1 receptor linked to efficacy and side effects emerged; a variant in the GIP receptor in tirzepatide users also affected side effects by removing buffering, while overall weight loss showed only partial dependence on these variants.
GLP-1 Genetics: Predicting Weight Loss and Side Effects With 23andMe's Dr. Adam Auton
Q: How did you set up the study and recruit participants?
They recruited from a large direct-to-consumer genetics database, collecting survey data on medications, dosages, duration, weight loss, and side effects before associating those responses with genetic data from consented participants.
Bimagrumab and Semaglutide: The BELIEVE Trial Results With Dr. Steven Heymsfield
Q: What were the key findings in terms of body composition for each group?
Bimagrumab alone produced notable fat loss with a small increase in lean mass; semaglutide alone caused substantial weight loss with some lean mass loss; the combination yielded very large fat loss with minimal lean mass loss, resulting in a favorable fat-to-lean ratio.
