  • Love this podcast…

I absolutely love this podcast… Brendan keeps the training jargon simple and easy to digest… no hyperbole… I always feel like I have a greater understanding of the rationale for why (and the type of adaptations) I’m doing a particular training routine as opposed to “I’m just doing this cause it says do this.” If you’re looking for hi-brow training mumbo-jumbo so you can sound like you got a PHd in Cycology, this isn’t the podcast for you… if you want to understand the way, then by all means tune... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

W/kg is Outdated - The Undercover Metric That Actually Matters
Q: What practical steps can listeners take to improve their compound score?
Incorporate strength training to boost raw power, optimize glycogen storage through nutrition, and maintain a lean but muscular physique; monitor the highest compound score across seasons and adjust workouts to target weaknesses in end-of-race performance.
W/kg is Outdated - The Undercover Metric That Actually Matters
Q: How should an amateur cyclist use this metric in training?
Focus on improving raw power and sustaining high-intensity efforts, while avoiding excessive weight loss that compromises power; track your compound score over time and aim to increase it rather than fixating on watts per kilo.
W/kg is Outdated - The Undercover Metric That Actually Matters
Q: What is the compound score and why is it considered more predictive than watts per kilogram?
Compound score multiplies five-minute power by watts per kilogram, combining raw power and weight efficiency to better reflect performance across race conditions, including climbers and attacks on the flats, than watts per kilogram alone.
How Rahsaan Bahati Won So Much—Without a Power Meter!
Q: What mindset or preparation helped you succeed across multiple eras of racing?
A focus on course reading, positioning, and adapting to the race dynamics over chasing raw power; I trained with a mix of track work, intervals, and motor pacing, and I avoided overemphasizing competition rumors or people's results, sticking to what I could control.
5 Mental Tricks to CRUSH Your Hardest Workouts
Q: What are your mental strategies?
Landry encourages listeners to share their own mental strategies for pushing through difficult workouts in the comments section.
