Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can AI make life easier for parents of kids with ADHD?
Q: What would you say to a parent like me who is afraid of starting to use AI?
Just try a platform that fits your needs and start small; there are many options, and you can tailor language and outputs to your child, easing into it rather than diving in headfirst.
Meltdowns, mysteries, and multiple diagnoses
Q: How did the neuropsychological evaluation change things for you at home and at school?
It gave us a diagnostic framework—ADHD and OCD and twice-exceptional traits—that helped us understand her needs, guide interventions, and explain to teachers what supports would help her thrive.
Meltdowns, mysteries, and multiple diagnoses
Q: What was the moment you realized you needed to look deeper into your child's challenges?
It wasn't a single moment but a series of events and escalating meltdowns, especially during the pandemic, that prompted us to seek more support and consider a deeper evaluation.
Advocating for your child when school systems won’t bend
Q: What was the process like obtaining the evaluations and what did the results reveal?
The process was lengthy and costly, involving an eight-month waitlist and hours of testing that yielded clear diagnoses (dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism), which helped justify accommodations and the school's 504 plan, even though IEPs were not always possible.
Advocating for your child when school systems won’t bend
Q: So, tell me, when did you, as a parent, realize, okay, I want to get my kids evaluated, I need this to be done?
The need for neuropsych evaluations arose after years of advocating, recognizing gaps in accommodations, and realizing that formal evaluations could reveal both the kids' strengths and the specific learning differences that classrooms were missing, which then informed more targeted supports.
