  • Ooops but no worries

I was cringing for you all today when I realized you posted the podcast w/o editing your chit chat at the beginning. But, I got a good laugh visualizing the jack russell bike chase, the upcoming Phish concert and Leslie Hiner being kidnapped…twice! Lol. I’m such a nerd and love your show so much that it made me feel like I was part of the group. Glad you guys don’t have anything to regret about what was said, and many many thanks for your excellent work. Keep it up.

  • Couldn’t stop listening

I was listening to episode 139 “why Meadow died” while I was ironing. I started looking for extra things to iron. Absolutely fascinating and relevant to every parent in every public school system. The interview starts out with the shooter exiting an Uber carrying a rifle bag, and is noticed by the security guy via a monitor. Wow. It ultimately covers all the stupid decisions and policies that led to this unnecessary day of deaths in a public high school. Listen, and share please with your ... more

How Iowa Is Turning Churches Into Classroom
Q: What does education look like in Iowa 15 years from now, and nationwide in 15 years?
Josh envisions continued expansion of student-focused choices and ESAs with market pressures driving innovation, broader access regardless of residence or background, and a national movement toward empowering parents with real school options while maintaining accountability through choice.
How Iowa Is Turning Churches Into Classroom
Q: Have you seen innovative models enter the marketplace as private education?
Yes. Beyond traditional brick-and-mortar schools, models include intergenerational preschool-to-K-2 schools connected to nursing homes, one-room schoolhouse formats with mixed-age groups, performing arts-focused schools, and targeted programs for students in rural or urban settings who previously lacked options.
How Iowa Is Turning Churches Into Classroom
Q: Before the universal education savings account was passed in Iowa, what were some of the biggest barriers you saw for private Christian education?
Josh explains the financial obstacles families faced, including paying tuition while also paying taxes, and the lack of widespread church support in many areas. The ESA created a financial pathway that unlocked access and allowed more families to participate in the marketplace for education.
How the Herzog Foundation Is Strengthening Christian Education
Q: What's your advice to pastors or church leaders who are on the fence about starting an education ministry?
The guidance emphasizes moving quickly and leanly, because children spend the majority of their waking hours in school; pastors should engage in education ministry now to influence the next generation positively and leverage existing church facilities for hosting schools or co-ops.
How the Herzog Foundation Is Strengthening Christian Education
Q: Talk a little about your national reach and the SchoolBox resource for churches and leaders.
Chris explains training hubs across the country (Kansas City, Fort Worth, Santa Barbara, Nashville, Washington DC, Kentucky) and how SchoolBox guides church groups through forming entities, enrolling students, curriculum decisions, and later pairing them with mentors to ensure viable school operations.
