  • Amazing

I am so glad I came across this podcast. I have learned so much and gained guidance towards self advocation. What they talk about makes sense why my naturopath has tried treating me for several things. I am still learning a lot. Maybe after my program and I’m making big girl money. If I still have my problems, then maybe I’ll be able to afford treatment from the amazing staff/company. In the meantime, I have gained a greater understanding of what is probably going on in my body and what I need t... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Removing Foods Help Your Child’s Eczema—or Make Things Worse?
Q: What should parents consider when deciding whether to pursue food allergy testing for eczema?
Test results should be interpreted in the context of clinical history and symptoms; tests can indicate sensitization but don't definitively prove a clinically relevant allergy, and unnecessary exclusions can carry nutritional risks.
Will Removing Foods Help Your Child’s Eczema—or Make Things Worse?
Q: Can you please start by explaining the different types of food reactions and how they relate to eczema?
There are immediate immune reactions and delayed ones; immediate reactions are typically linked to clear, short-term symptoms after ingestion, while delayed reactions can occur hours to days later and are harder to connect to a specific food in the context of eczema.
Eating fat-rich foods and changing baby skincare: Insights for prevention from GPER-funded research
Q: Any questions in the room?
A presenter and moderator acknowledge questions from attendees and discuss practical dietary questions for children with eczema.
From Foe to Friend: Could common skin fungi be harnessed to heal the skin barrier?
Q: Putting bleach, very dilute, into baths is another common practice to try and clear the microbiome. Same situation, do you think, there?
Antiseptic or bleach-like approaches reduce bacterial load and can also reduce fungal load, including Malassezia, which may be helpful in some contexts. However, the goal is to avoid over-suppressing beneficial microbes and to balance the fungal community rather than eliminate it completely.
From Foe to Friend: Could common skin fungi be harnessed to heal the skin barrier?
Q: What about steroid creams? Is that going to have an impact on Melestesia?
Steroids are broad anti-inflammatory treatments that dampen inflammation and help repair the skin barrier, which can secondarily influence Melastesia's activity. It's not known to directly target Melastesia in all cases, but it can create conditions where the fungus is less problematic overall.
