  • Unforgettable moments

I thought I could imagine what spending your whole life in prison would be like. I was wrong.

Blown away by the honesty and willingness to reveal themselves that this women show. Flaws and all, they are just as human as the rest of us.

The episode on the woman who works as a prison hospice volunteer because she doesn’t want other women to have to die alone is especially moving.

  • Thank You

Thank you bringing attention to Muncy and the broader issue of how women are treated in the Penal system. The contrast between the treatment of women and men is disturbing and often overlooked. This is the kind of content that needs to be heard, I’m hoping it drives real change.

I am grateful to Cherri and others for their advocacy and raising awareness about PA Lifers! There are about 5000 prisoners serving DBI sentences in PA. Major reform needs to take place! Keep up the good work!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Launch Event at WHYY
Q: What did the court decide and why does it matter?
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that mandatory life without parole for second-degree murder is unconstitutional under the state constitution, which offers greater protections than the federal standard. This could affect over a thousand people and prompts the legislature to craft a remedy within 120 days.
Lock Them Up For Life
Q: What keeps Sylvia going while serving a life sentence?
Her children and grandchildren, her desire to be a good mother and grandmother, and the hope of reuniting with family drive her perseverance.
Submerged
Q: Why do you do this work for other women?
I needed to do something with my guilt, to mentor and raise up another generation of children as they enter prison, and to hold on to some humanity in a place that can easily become hopeless.
