  • New, Interesting Perspective

There are lots of running shoe reviewers out there but this group brings what I feel is a new and unique perspective that makes me look my shoes and running mechanics differently. Very interesting and educational! The buy or sell episodes have so much discussion, I always love them.

  • Nothing else comes close

Love listening to these 4 geeks (in whatever combination). They bring a whole different perspective to shoes with their physio therapy profession which I think is a whole lot more interesting than listening to sponsored shoe reviews with a strong bias.

  • Like’s

I enjoy listening to your knowledge of shoes and running. But Andrea you have to stop saying “like” in almost every sentence. You’re a smart person but it makes you sound dumb.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#289 The Science of Walking Shoes
Q: What are the basic biomechanical differences between walking and running?
Walking keeps at least one foot on the ground, resulting in lower forces; running involves a flight phase with higher forces due to both feet being off the ground at times, requiring more propulsion and stability.
#288 Mailbag! Best Stable Max Cushion? Shoes for Knee Pain? Training While Sick?
Q: Which stability-oriented road shoe would be best for a heavier runner seeking stability and responsiveness?
The panel suggests trying tried-and-true stability-neutral road models first, considering options like the Kayano or Inspire, with the emphasis on trying on multiple shoes to gauge stability and comfort since mass and fit vary between individuals.
#284 Mailbag! Is There Real Science Behind Recovery Shoes? Best Stable Neutral Long Run Shoes? Lightweight vs. Max Cushion?
Q: Is there any actual science behind recovery run shoes or is this category marketing?
There's little high-quality evidence supporting recovery-specific footwear for physiologic benefits; shoes are viewed as tools and the choice should align with an individual's training needs and tolerance, with emphasis on overall recovery strategies rather than relying on footwear alone.
#282 Becoming a Competitive Masters Runner, ft. Jennifer St. Jean
Q: As a lifelong racer, how has your training changed over the years?
Jenn has maintained a consistent approach to training but emphasizes the importance of recovery as she has aged.
#282 Becoming a Competitive Masters Runner, ft. Jennifer St. Jean
Q: If somebody was interested in getting into masters track, what should they know?
Jenn advises that masters track welcomes younger athletes and there are various resources to find meets and train with clubs.
