Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

No Cheerleaders, No Crew: Cody Taylor on the Unhinged Reality of Unsupported FKTs
Q: Would you consider an FKT on the Appalachian Trail unsported in the future?
It's possible, but it would require learning to fish or hunt to sustain oneself and a lot more experience; it's a formidable challenge that could be very interesting down the line.
No Cheerleaders, No Crew: Cody Taylor on the Unhinged Reality of Unsupported FKTs
Q: What did you learn about preparing for an FKT after your early attempts?
Learning to filter water efficiently, managing nutrition, and understanding the weight of a fully loaded backpack were pivotal; I moved from 52-53 pounds to optimized gear and calories as I gained experience.
No Cheerleaders, No Crew: Cody Taylor on the Unhinged Reality of Unsupported FKTs
Q: So what was the first FKT you set?
It was the Bruce Trail, a 550-mile Canadian route from Niagara to Tobermory, known for its technical, rocky sections.
The Murder Mile Masterclass: Aaron Dana & Eric Kienle on the Mid-State Mile
Q: What did you tell a brand-new runner starting Mid-State Mile about nutrition and fueling?
Aaron emphasized having a variety of options (salty, sweet, gels, drinks) and using the corral time to fuel and cool, while staying consistent with small amounts of intake each loop and using salt pills to sustain hydration.
Accept Defeat & Take A Seat: Harvey Lewis and Mark Dowdle Face Tennessee's Brutal Mid-State Mile
Q: What are your two to three greatest points of advice for someone entering Mid-State Mile for the first time?
Focus on body temperature management, pacing, and using ice and coolant to stay cool; don't copy someone else's loop strategy—run your own race and learn to adjust as the heat and terrain change. Build a supportive crew and practice staying in the moment to handle the mental pressure.
