  • I love Founders, David hasn't hit his stride as an interviewer.

David's podcast Founders has been an awesome source of condensed knowledge. In the past, he has discussed how he likes the idea of "becoming friends with the eminent dead." He has often times mentioned how he does not want to read about those who are still living. I believe this is due to the fact that their stories are not fully written, which I totally agree. It is interesting that as he has gained more influence, that he has now become associated with current founders and other prominent indi... more

  • Too Self Absorbed

The pro of this show is he gets interesting guests. The cons are many. He never asks any even slightly challenging questions. Its 2 hours of “why are you so great?” in various forms. He constantly interrupts guests with his own stories. He seems trying to prove how connected he is by name dropping every other famous person he’s talked to. My advice: Let the interview breathe. Its not about you. Try to push the guests thinking in interesting ways. There is potential here.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Brian Armstrong, Coinbase
Q: How did the company respond to internal dissent over its political stance during 2021?
Armstrong drafted a mission-focused blog post, resisted broad political advocacy inside the workplace, and offered severance to those not aligned, choosing to keep Coinbase aligned with its long-term mission of economic freedom and crypto-enabled prosperity.
Brian Armstrong, Coinbase
Q: Why did Coinbase decide to sue the SEC after the regulator delayed publishing rules?
They believed the regulator had not followed proper rulemaking procedures under the Administrative Procedures Act, violating the duty to engage with industry stakeholders and publish rules, and the suit was a proactive step to clarify the regulatory path for crypto.
Brian Armstrong, Coinbase
Q: What was the core legal challenge Coinbase faced in relation to crypto regulation in the US?
The core challenge was clarifying which crypto assets are commodities versus securities, to avoid being unfairly targeted by regulators and to establish a clear framework that would allow the industry to grow in the US.
Scott Wu, Cognition
Q: Describe what a compound model system is and how Devin uses models?
A compound model system means Devin selects the best model for each subtask within a larger workflow, switching between models as needed to optimize for accuracy and cost. It uses a mix of third-party and in-house models, choosing the right one for each task—ranging from debugging to code generation—so the overall system can execute end-to-end tasks efficiently.
Scott Wu, Cognition
Q: Where did your strategy to pursue Fortune 500 and large enterprises come from?
The strategy emerged from seeing real, scalable problems in large codebases and migrations where a well-tuned Devin could do end-to-end work. It started as early pilots with enterprise and self-serve lines, then evolved into a focus on companies with massive software needs, because those environments offer the most value from end-to-end automation.
