#45 Overcoming Paralysis and Trauma: How Jordan Meyer Rebuilt His Life and Career
Q: What advice would you give to someone who's been through trauma, and what about prophylaxis for those who haven't yet?
Treat trauma with the understanding that the brain stores it and it can resurface; therapy should reconnect mind and body to heal without retriggering; for prevention, view life as a forge that forges you through change toward your best self.
#45 Overcoming Paralysis and Trauma: How Jordan Meyer Rebuilt His Life and Career
Q: What should a parent know about raising kids to foster self-worth and resilience?
For boys, modeling the behavior you want them to imitate is key; for girls, affirmations and words matter more. A strong father-daughter relationship is strongly linked to higher self-esteem, and resilience can be taught at any stage of life.
#45 Overcoming Paralysis and Trauma: How Jordan Meyer Rebuilt His Life and Career
Q: What are the three foundations of resilience you teach your clients?
The three foundations are control, commitment, and challenge. First, identify what is in your control to prevent spiraling; second, commit to daily difficult actions; third, view the trauma as an opportunity for growth rather than a victim narrative.
#45 Overcoming Paralysis and Trauma: How Jordan Meyer Rebuilt His Life and Career
Q: So what brought you into this field originally?
I had a personal accident that uprooted my life and changed its entire trajectory, with the added challenge of losing my identity; that experience steered me toward psychology and a career in trauma therapy.
#45 Overcoming Paralysis and Trauma: How Jordan Meyer Rebuilt His Life and Career
Q: We're thrilled to have you. You are a licensed trauma therapist, and I want to unpack that. A, what that means, and B, what made you get into the field?
I'm a licensed mental health counselor specializing in trauma; my focus began with trauma research and therapy over nearly a decade, and my certifications now allow me to publicly identify as a trauma therapist.
