  • The best triathlon podcast out there!

Love these guys! I’ve probably tried all triathlon and endurance related podcasts over the last three or four years, and I keep coming back to Robbie and Mike. Their real world approach to life, training, and being a human being translates in a one-of-a-kind conversation about this amazing sport. They don’t do sponsors, they don’t do ads, they just want us to be happy and healthy, and they keep showing up twice a week! Really worth giving them a try, hang out for three or four episodes to get th... more

  • Odd Couple

Can’t listen anymore. Robbie brings insightful advice through intelligence born from adversity and study of the sport. Type A with compassion for those who are not. His counter part,

Mike -Type C to the core,

makes constant excuses as to why he is ALWAYs undertrained for race, offers little value to the podcast other than a “ I couldn’t agree with you more… “ How he coaches athletes and takes money from them is a mystery. Robbie… the dude helped you out in a low period but you’re too smar... more

  • Love these guys

These guys are an absolute breath of fresh air in a podcast ecosystem full of way too much garbage content. No hidden agendas, no sponsors to please, just pure authentic conversation on sport, life, and happiness. Keep up the great work Robbie and Mike! Thank you!

  • if it ain't fun, why are you doing it?

Game changing podcast when I found it. Coaches Mike and Robbie changed my mental approach to training by consistently emphasizing that you should be having FUN while training and racing. Their genuine friendship comes across in the podcast and further emphaiszes that training and racing is great but should never come at the expense of other priorities in life. Grateful for these guys and what they're doing, keep up the great work!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#873 – Listener Q&A
Q: What are some good ways to structure open water swim workouts?
Set a timer for intervals and vary strokes, intensity, and recovery to keep the session engaging. Focus on maintaining a steady effort without treading water as it helps mimic race conditions.
#873 – Listener Q&A
Q: How do you train your brain to overcome a mental barrier that obstructs progress, like not being able to make your body go faster despite training?
You need to train your mind through practice and awareness during workouts, learning to manage pain and find your limits. It's critical to repeatedly challenge mental toughness and train your perception of pain.
#873 – Listener Q&A
Q: Can you talk about how to approach training when you get sick with something semi-serious like the COVID or the flu during peak weeks right before a taper? Would you approach this differently with a 70.3 compared to a full?
Staying active with low-intensity workouts like zone one or zone two riding or running helps maintain fitness. It's not about when you get sick but how you handle it, suggesting rest and hydration while gradually getting back into easier workouts.
#825 – Listener Questions
Q: How much benefit is there to training with a lactate meter for a competitive age group athlete?
Not much, as it's typically overkill for the average athlete. Knowing how to apply data is more important than the data itself.
#825 – Listener Questions
Q: Do you think it's important that your long run is the day after the long ride?
No, it's most important to run with the best form and economy, rather than forcing a specific schedule. Running is best done to enhance performance.
