For eight years, Megan Hess ran Sunset Mesa Funeral Home in the small town of Montrose, Colorado. She promised clients discounts on normally expensive cremations, a seeming kindness in a town where many are poor. But in the back of the funeral home, Megan’s elderly mother Shirley was actually dismembering the dead. And then Megan was selling the body parts – heads, torsos, legs – to companies that... more

Wow. This was crazy, macabre, and horrifying. So glad they are in prison now. I think they should have been cut up and thrown away after what they did and how many grieving people they hurt. I know if this had happened to a loved one of mine, I would never be able to forget the horrifying truth.
Credibility is lost on me since the narrator does not know how to pronounce the town of this podcast. Even worse, she pronounces it wrong in earlier episodes, corrects it in later episodes, and then reverts to false pronunciation. This could have been edited but, NO. Cheap, uncaring and disrespectful.
If this is the format of podcasts going forward…that is, sucking you in with an interesting first episode and then requiring a subscription to hear the rest, I won’t be listening to podcasts anymore. Enough is enough with the greedy subscription models with everything we do. Such a turn off.
I’m a local to this area and had no clue any of this happened- holy smokes! Like others have mentioned, the mispronunciation on Montrose is grating. But overall really appreciate the way this was reported. All the interviews were interesting. Story is fully insane. Gotta love mountain life!
Wow! This is one of the most incredible podcasts that I’ve listened too so far. Every single episode had me listening carefully. Great work to everyone on the team!
