The Gut Health and Hormone Connection You Need to Know
Q: What first steps do you recommend for a woman around 40 struggling with cortisol and gut issues?
Start with lifestyle adjustments: optimize sleep, circadian rhythm, daily routines, hydration, and simple dietary changes before resorting to extensive, costly testing.
The Gut Health and Hormone Connection You Need to Know
Q: Tell us more about your story and what led you here.
Stephanie shares her journey from oncology nutrition to focusing on root-cause medicine, and how a personal health scare, including bloating and sleep issues, prompted a shift toward functional medicine and gut-health-centered care.
Low Libido After 40 — The Hormonal Truth Behind the Intimacy Problem in Your Marriage
Q: What practical steps can couples take when libido drops after 40?
Improve communication and honesty about needs; explore non-traditional forms of intimacy and lubrication options; optimize sleep and stress management; consider targeted hormone testing and discuss potential therapies with a knowledgeable clinician; and remember that changes don't have to derail a loving relationship—there are ways to adapt and stay connected.
Low Libido After 40 — The Hormonal Truth Behind the Intimacy Problem in Your Marriage
Q: Why is this topic often dismissed by clinicians, and how can patients counter that?
There is limited research linking hormones, sleep, and sexual health, and many providers haven't received training on these connections. Patients can counter by bringing data, asking for specific hormone tests (total/free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, progesterone), and seeking clinicians who specialize in hormonal health or who are active in the space.
Low Libido After 40 — The Hormonal Truth Behind the Intimacy Problem in Your Marriage
Q: What should a woman say to her doctor when discussing libido and aging?
Be prepared with a symptom log, note timing relative to the cycle, describe what has worsened or changed, and mention what has been tried (hydration, exercise, sleep strategies). If possible, bring a partner for support, and consider a longer, comprehensive panel of tests beyond the basics to assess hormones, thyroid, and inflammatory markers.
