  • Good people, good show

Enjoy listening to this show so much. The dynamic between Peter and Molly is hilarious. Besides the fact that it is often crack-the-F-up funny, they give relatable and… almost empathetic advice on training (???) They surely have high performing athletes that they advise and coach, but they also provide really wonderful content for those middling-age Dads with kids, jobs, marriages (etc). They respect the time limits and constraints and I really find it inspiring/motivating. When I’m really not... more

Slow Recovery in 50s, Training By Feels, Ruff Mudder Recap
Q: How to balance training by feel with data; should one run by vibe and still follow a plan?
Run by feel can be effective when paired with a clear plan and awareness of intensity; using interval timers or structured cues helps maintain discipline while allowing perceived effort to guide execution, ensuring you don't sacrifice recovery or accumulate excessive fatigue.
Slow Recovery in 50s, Training By Feels, Ruff Mudder Recap
Q: Recovery as we age: is longer recovery between hard efforts normal, and how should the week be structured for masters athletes?
Yes, recovery capacity tends to decrease with age, but the key is adapting training structure to include hard and easy days, with clear rest or low-intensity days and potentially a three-day micro-cycle to stay consistent without overdoing hard intervals, complemented by adequate fueling and strength work.
Slow Recovery in 50s, Training By Feels, Ruff Mudder Recap
Q: Should you walk your bike if a climb demands a heart rate greater than 160 for any length of time?
Walking can be a viable pacing strategy when a hill would push heart rate beyond sustainable levels; the decision should consider whether continuing to ride would significantly derail overall race pace, energy management, and the ability to recover for later sections, as well as whether standing climbing is efficient given gear and technique.
Western States 2026, Stretching, Average or Normalized Power
Q: Normalized power or average power for tracking progress across interval blocks?
Normalized power is useful mostly in post-workout analysis to gauge the overall difficulty of a mixed effort, but for pacing during intervals, athletes should focus on the interval's target average power; normalized power helps retrospectively understand how hard the workout felt overall.
Leadville and Marginal Gains - Michael Hotten
Q: What are practical tips for crew setup and feed zones?
Be organized with clearly labeled bags, plan each stop, have your rider ready with a feeding plan, and avoid scrambling. Keep gear minimal yet sufficient, and coordinate with other crew to cover major junctions like Twin Lakes, Outward Bound, and Lost Canyon.
