Absolutely beautiful podcast. I am so moved. I will never forget this story. Amazing people. Amazing storytelling. Restored my faith in humanity in a time when the world feels so cold. Even though the story centers around a tragedy- the love, compassion and humanity here is just so humbling. There is still so much kindness in the world. Words can’t even. 🥲
Journalist / podcast hosts like Dave Cawley are becoming increasingly rare. Not only is his voice and story telling as good as it gets, he is very careful about what is included in the stories and doesn’t try and lead the audience to a conclusion with a sensational, unverified claim. Cold is highly professionally produced and I am always thrilled to find a podcast that just tells the story. No annoying unnecessary chatter between hosts that isn’t related to the story whatsoever. This is how you ... more
Five of the first ten minutes were commercials, which was enough to put me off for good.
Wow. I’m not a hiker, I was actually hunting around for a true crime story and stumbled across this podcast. I’m so glad I did, I was so engaged and inspired. Thank you Marilyn for sharing your story. Such a respectful and inspiring podcast.
What really sets this podcast apart is its humanity. There’s so much empathy woven into every narrative. It doesn’t just tell stories, it honors them.
Be warned though, once you start, it’s very hard to stop. This is the kind of podcast that turns “just one episode” into three hours later, sitting in your car in the driveway because you need to hear how it ends.
Absolutely phenomenal. A true gem.

The series presents thorough, narrative-driven investigations into missing persons and unresolved cases, framed by meticulous archival research and survivor-centered storytelling. Across seasons, it blends investigative journalism with personal narratives to illuminate how cases unfold, the impact on families, and the ongoing pursuit of answers. Listeners are drawn to the methodical, empathetic approach that weighs how authorities respond to survivors and how new evidence can shift long-held assumptions. A notable strength is the sustained, multi-season deep dives that connect historical cases with broader social issues like domestic violence, justice for victims, and the ethics of reporting in true crime.
