Class Divide is a powerful podcast series that exposes educational inequality in the UK. Through two years of documentary work, it sheds light on education in underprivileged areas such as East Brighton estates of Whitehawk, Manor Farm and Bristol Estate. Shockingly, only 37% of young people in East Brighton achieved basic GCSE grades compared to 69% in the rest of the city in 2019.

Vital listening, especially for the well over 1000 people who have signed the shameless petition which has been started in an attempt to stop a consultation by Brighton Council that hopes to redress some of the issues raised in this podcast.
Great to hear voices and perspectives so often absent from the general discourse presented in an intelligent and insightful way.
This is a Sad n Tragic state of affairs. Almost like an Apartheid system. The Division of these kids n attitudes towards them inc. the Stigmas attached to them is so damaging.
“keep them down, don’t let them rise up “
The adults involved are making our society a dangerous place. Only the children themselves can change this, from both sides of the tracks- it’s THEIR FUTURES- Stop underestimating their abilities & involve them in the decisions being made. 😩😡
A wonderfully well presented podcast series
of the not so hidden underbelly of the public education of our children in Brighton.
A very challenging, well-researched and educational series - that is a must for our (recently elected) Councillors, council officers and most importantly the parents and teachers who personally do so well on the back on the social exclusion of some.
Excellent podcast examining class and it's impact on educational provision, experience and outcomes. It explores the historical experiences of kids and teachers from the Whitehawk Estate in Brighton alongside current educational practices. But I think those experiences are replicated across the UK.
I've just finished Ep 3 and it makes me so angry and sad that children are written off and not given the support they need. Forget confected culture wars, this is Class War made manifest.
