  • Love the content, but fix the echoing audio

Thoughtful, balanced and well-resourced information. One of my new “must-listen” podcasts. Suggestion: fix the obnoxious echo on host Gregg Nunziata’s feed.

  • Political Agenda > Truth

This podcast has only one purpose: to criticize Trump. And while there is much to criticize about Trump, this podcast loses credibility by pretending Trump is the first, worst, and only threat to our democracy.

For example, Trump is accused of undermining the independent judiciary, when in fact he has so far complied with court rulings—even rulings against his beloved tariffs. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is explicitly calling for court packing and spurring violence against the Justices, bu... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

David French: The Executive Branch Is Becoming an 800-Pound Gorilla
Q: How do you assess where we are today with executive power in America and how did we get here?
The executive power should be narrowly construed as the responsibility to execute laws passed by Congress; otherwise, the unitary executive theory risks creating a quasi-monarchical presidency that can reshape constitutional meanings through orders. The Supreme Court's trajectory could thus push toward a more limited yet powerful presidency that still respects checks and balances.
Judicial Independence is the Cornerstone of Democracy
Q: How has the confirmation process evolved and what concerns do you have about it today?
The confirmation process has become more politicized over time, risking the selection of judges based on loyalty rather than character and competence, which undermines confidence in the judiciary.
Judicial Independence is the Cornerstone of Democracy
Q: What makes an independent judiciary essential to liberty?
An independent judiciary checks the other branches and upholds the Constitution, preventing political pressures from dictating legal outcomes, which safeguards liberty for the American people.
Corruption Blooming Like Algae in the Reflecting Pool
Q: What practical steps would you recommend a future administration take to balance accountability with moving forward?
Eisen advocates distinguishing the most serious misconduct from lesser issues, pursuing fast accountability for the former, and pursuing reconciliation for the latter within a bipartisan framework. He supports coalition-based governance, safeguards for free and fair elections, and upholding the independence of the judiciary as central pillars.
Corruption Blooming Like Algae in the Reflecting Pool
Q: What lessons from Central and Eastern Europe can inform bipartisan efforts to protect democracy in the U.S.?
He notes that threats to democracy can come from across the spectrum and that those regions understood this intuitively due to fascist and communist histories. The key takeaway is to build coalitions that transcend ideology and to study resilience mechanisms from those countries to guard against backsliding while maintaining an open, rules-based system.
