  • April Ryan?

Jen and Norm, I am a loyal Contrarian but April Ryan's interview of Susan Rice was an F. She used outdated phrases like "3rd world country" and was corrected by Susan. She was "gushing" at the beginning with statements like "you sure know how to start an interview". She is not ready for prime time and beneath Contrarian's consistently excellent interviews.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

This Middle East Negotiator Breaks Down Trump's Impulsive War
Q: Is there a negotiation going on? Is it going to produce what Trump wants?
He suggests any deal hinges on the Revolutionary Guard's fears and the willingness to concede strategic choke points, with potential concessions on the straits and some uranium reductions, but with significant uncertainty about enforcement and long-term consequences.
This Middle East Negotiator Breaks Down Trump's Impulsive War
Q: Now here's Dennis Ross. What, as you understand, is the status of the war itself? What do the Iranians have and have left? And what is the posture of the Israeli and the US forces at this point?
Ross argues that while the campaign has destroyed some capability, the Iranian leadership believes it can endure and will resist unless political pressure and strategic costs rise enough to force a deal, making a decisive outcome possible only with credible threats and a clear end-state.
Pam Bondi's Firing & Repairing A Broken Justice System
Q: Big picture. What do you think her legacy is going to be at the Justice Department? And how damaging and long lasting will that be?
Weissman argues that Bondi's tenure damaged the independence and credibility of the DOJ, and stresses the need for a top-to-bottom reform, safeguards, and ongoing accountability to restore trust and uphold the rule of law.
Trump’s Middle East Disaster, AIPAC's Dark Money Meddling Continues and more
Q: But what if Iran keeps firing missiles after you say you've stopped?
The discussion highlights that simply signaling a stop without a viable exit strategy allows Iran to claim a victory by surviving, and stresses the necessity of a credible, actionable pathway out that minimizes further conflict and aligns with a broader strategy.
Trump’s Middle East Disaster, AIPAC's Dark Money Meddling Continues and more
Q: Tell us from the perspective of Israel, what is their end game here and what are their goals?
Israel's endgame, as described, involves complex aims including regional containment and maintaining leverage, but there is concern about long-term consequences, the risk of escalation, and the political calculations of leadership. The guest emphasizes the need to understand Israeli goals while recognizing that the U.S. should pursue a sustainable path that aligns with American interests and regional stability.
