  • April Ryan?

Jen and Norm, I am a loyal Contrarian but April Ryan's interview of Susan Rice was an F. She used outdated phrases like "3rd world country" and was corrected by Susan. She was "gushing" at the beginning with statements like "you sure know how to start an interview". She is not ready for prime time and beneath Contrarian's consistently excellent interviews.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Todd Blanche Is Unfit For Attorney General
Q: What could be the consequences if Blanche were confirmed as Attorney General?
The concern is that the DOJ would be constrained by political loyalty rather than pursuing equal justice, undermining protections for citizens and fragile democratic norms.
Why Todd Blanche Is Unfit For Attorney General
Q: Can you talk us through just briefly why this is such a controversial and concerning nomination?
Rosen explains that the Attorney General must act as a protector of the Constitution and the public, not as an extension of the President, and she views Blanche's allegiance to Trump as incompatible with that duty.
DOGE has Destroyed Fair Housing Grants
Q: Please tell us what happened Thursday with fair housing and Donald Trump.
The administration sought to withdraw funding for private fair housing civil rights organizations by changing the grant process and later shifted to disseminating funds with altered terms, effectively undermining the intent of Congress and targeting groups with established track records in fair housing support.
What's Next for Dems in Maine's Senate Race?
Q: But what has been your perspective about how this whole thing is unfolded and why it unfolded the way it did?
Lockhart explains that Maine's situation was not just a local anomaly but part of a broader pattern where outside Washington forces and the consultant class shaped strategic decisions, leading to a mismatch with local realities.
Brian Tyler Cohen On His New Book, The Day After
Q: Tell us about your book and what you are trying to do with your second book.
The Day After argues that there is a structural asymmetry in power dynamics between Republicans who wield power aggressively and Democrats who often hesitate to act. It offers a blueprint for pragmatic, principled governance designed to mobilize institutions and the public to defend democracy.
