  • Apology

Have to interrupt my listening to the latest episode to say kudos to Eliot Williams for being so lovely and gracious: THAT was an apology. Coming from a man, an attorney no less, it was beautiful and powerful. Not an if-pology, not an "I didn't mean...", not a rationalization, just clear owning it, here's why it wasn't right, here's who I'm saying sorry to, we continue to strive to do better. This process should be a normal everyday practice of adulting & civility, but unfortunately it's not. ... more

  • Somewhat useful

But at this point I find Longwell to be pompous and insufferable, her takes on Israel are severely out of touch both in terms of reality, as well as reflecting the consensus. That being said, I did love her work on the seasonal family favorite "A Christmas Story".

  • Episode with JVL and A Weissman 28/3/26

This was interesting and I’d like to hear more of them together (sorry, Sarah — love yours too!). Two points: 1. I’m concerned about how both Pam J Bondi and Todd Blanche are acting — as though they are never going to be removed from those positions. So, what do they know that we/I don’t? This worries me!! And 2. It was Groucho Marx that said that he didn’t want to be in a club that would accept him. Check out The Groucho Club in London! Many thanks for all the great discussions and digressions.... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S2 Ep157: SCOTUS Profoundly Changed Elections—Mid-Vote! (w/ Kate Shaw)
Q: Can you just give us an overview of the case and what are the facts, how did this get to the Supreme Court, what did they rule?
The case is part of a broader arc where the court has weakened parts of the Voting Rights Act over time; Louisiana's map had a second majority-black district that the court found to be impermissibly race-conscious in the way it was drawn, signaling a shift toward a colorblind interpretation of the Constitution with respect to race in redistricting.
S2 Ep156: Kash Patel's Lawsuit Could Backfire—BIG TIME (w/ Andrew Weissmann)
Q: Why should Kash Patel go to trial instead of settling or moving quickly through motions?
A rapid trial would expose witnesses, contradictors, and the credibility of the allegations in a way that could clarify the record for the public, giving Kash Patel a platform to present his side and potentially deter further media framing until evidence is tested in court.
S2 Ep148: Is This War Legal? (w/ Tess Bridgeman)
Q: Is this war legal or illegal that we are currently waging?
It is illegal under both domestic and international law, with the international law framing labeling it a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and self-defense justifications not meeting the threshold.
S2 Ep147: Trump’s Face on DOJ Is a Big Deal—Here’s Why (w/ Elliot Williams)
Q: Is there a reason he never tried to do this out of the gate versus the illegal way?
Yes, there is likely a lack of political and congressional support; tariffs are taxes, and achieving bipartisan buy-in would be difficult, so the administration opted for more aggressive approaches that risk court challenges.
S2 Ep147: Trump’s Face on DOJ Is a Big Deal—Here’s Why (w/ Elliot Williams)
Q: So my first question is, how did Trump get around the Supreme Court's decision?
He didn't truly get around it; he used legally bounded avenues like the Trade Act of 1974 that are time-bound and require justification, and the broader path would require congressional authorization. Legal challenges are likely, and the broad, sweeping authority he imagined is not supported by current law.
