  • Mid level creep

I’m sorry but I do not agree with having NPs give CME lectures. If they’re not lecturing in medical school or residency then they should not be lecturing on CME content. Especially at the level of the Mayo Clinic

What a great presentation. Dr Anand as usual is brilliant.

  • Poor Multidisciplinary Recognition

I expected more from the Mayo Clinic. There’s so much emphasis on surgical and pharmaceutical weight loss in this content. These methods will rarely ever have long term benefits without also including dietitians in their care for teaching lifestyle changes.

  • Could be better

Some of the podcasts had very little actual clinical content. They sounded like more of an advertisement for the Mayo Clinic. I’m several episodes into the ECG series and have yet to hear anything practice changing or informative.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Menopause Management In Women with Cardiovascular Disease
Q: How should vaginal estrogen be used in women with previous heart disease or cardiovascular risk?
Vaginal estrogen provides local relief with minimal systemic absorption and is generally considered safe for many women, including those with cardiovascular concerns, though clinicians should review individual risk factors and monitor as appropriate.
Menopause Management In Women with Cardiovascular Disease
Q: What non-hormonal options exist for hot flashes, and how effective are they in patients with cardiovascular risk?
Non-hormonal options such as SSRIs/SNRIs, gabapentin, oxybutynin, and newer neurokinin antagonists can help hot flashes, with varying effectiveness; these are especially relevant when systemic hormone therapy is contraindicated or not desired.
Menopause Management In Women with Cardiovascular Disease
Q: What are the key contraindications to menopausal hormone therapy that clinicians should watch for in patients with cardiovascular concerns?
Thrombotic events, active estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, severe liver disease, and other major thrombotic conditions are contraindications; after an MI or in high-risk patients, caution is advised and non-hormonal options may be preferred for symptom control.
Menopause Management In Women with Cardiovascular Disease
Q: With the menopause transition affecting cardiovascular risk, should we be treating all women with menopause hormone therapy to prevent heart disease?
No. The consensus is that hormone therapy is not for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease; it remains useful for symptom management in appropriately selected patients, with attention to timing and contraindications.
Handheld Ultrasound and Detection of Valve and Other Structural Heart Disease
Q: What is the proposed pathway for AI ECG and AI echocardiography in screening?
Use AI ECG for initial screening, with an abnormal result prompting AI-guided focused cardiac ultrasound; non-experts acquire data, AI reads it, and patients with findings are referred to cardiology for formal evaluation.
