  • Disrespect

Its incredible there was not much research on the requirements to become a nurse practitioner which is at least a minimum of 7-10 years one must be an rn with experience before even applying to no school. No one is saying that nps are going to outsource MDs its disrespectful not to give each role respect where its due you compared NP training to the pa which is misleading its totally different clinical experience. NP clinical hours are direct contact with patients alongside a mentor who gives yo... more

  • Please hire a professional reader

As a practitioner I rely on podcasts such as JAMA, NEJM and several others to help stay current. Annals is nearly indecipherable from an auditory perspective compared to the dozen or so I listen to regularly

  • Advanced practice providers

I listened to the most recent podcast on APPs and taking the place of primary care physicians. I do think physicians have much more intensive training and just more training in general. The one thing that bothered me was NP training. One of the biggest differences between NPs and PAs is clinical experience. To become an NP you must first have a bachelor’s degree in nursing and be a licensed RN. Nursing school can be fairly intense, and while you still don’t have the education of a physic... more

  • No longer EBM

This show was good when it was evidence-based medicine. What I heard today was 30 mins of non EBM, just opinions. Better options if you are looking for thoughtful opinions.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Alzheimer Disease: A Diagnostic Challenge
Q: What are the two contemporary approaches to diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, and how do they influence treatment eligibility for monoclonal antibodies?
The host outlines that one approach uses positive amyloid biomarkers (amyloid positivity from serum, CSF, or imaging) as a basis for diagnosis, while another approach requires additional markers such as tau pathology and clinical symptoms, which can delay or exclude certain patients from receiving monoclonal antibodies. This creates a tension between early intervention and diagnostic precision.
The Role of Corticosteroids in Severe Pneumonia
Q: What should we be looking for in the future to better deal with this conundrum?
Dr. Klompas suggests imposing more homogeneity on study populations and validates the relationship between CRP levels and treatment response.
The Role of Corticosteroids in Severe Pneumonia
Q: Why don't you start out by outlining the controversy, and please include both the 19 and 25 guidelines with the definition of severe pneumonia?
Dr. Klompas explains the evolving guidelines on corticosteroids for pneumonia, highlighting heterogeneity in study results regarding their beneficial or harmful effects.
Mediterranean Diet in the Management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Q: What stimulated this study?
Observations of the commonality of IBS symptoms and the frustrations faced by patients and physicians led to the development of a randomized control trial focusing on the Mediterranean diet versus standard diets.
Palliative Care: A Family Perspective
Q: What do you want them to know from your experience that will help them do a better job in introducing palliative care?
Patients often drop hints about needing help, and doctors need to recognize when those cues are present, as they indicate a need for additional support from palliative care.
