4.7 out of 5 stars from 406 ratings
  • Great that they have broadened out the PMs

With CEO Mike Gitlin hosting, we are hearing from a broader range of Capital PMs. I think it would be great if they continued to do that and let us hear from everyone over time. The deeper dives from analysts are also useful. It would be great to hear from all the equity analysts.

All that glitters: What's driving up gold prices?
Q: How do the supply and demand dynamics work for gold?
Annual gold supply growth requires active buyers; as price rises, buyers can be incentivized by fear of missing out, but the dynamics are complex, with central banks and investors shaping demand.
All that glitters: What's driving up gold prices?
Q: You mentioned tariffs. How does the Supreme Court decision overturning Trump's tariffs factor into all of this?
Tariff policy adds uncertainty and pressure on the dollar; without clarity on government budgets and policy direction, confidence in the currency may wane, which could support gold as a safe asset.
All that glitters: What's driving up gold prices?
Q: What would you say is the role of gold in an investment portfolio?
Gold serves as a diversifier and store of wealth, especially valuable when both stocks and bonds underperform; in a balanced fund context, it can help with capital preservation and reduce overall portfolio risk.
All that glitters: What's driving up gold prices?
Q: So how does that work? Because you can't buy physical gold, right?
Capital Group exercises exposure through gold-related companies and financial structures (e.g., streaming/royalty companies) rather than physical gold or traditional ETFs, arguing these can offer leverage to gold's upside with growth in earnings.
All that glitters: What's driving up gold prices?
Q: Are gold prices being driven by fear and uncertainty as we keep hearing in the news, or is there more going on here?
The guest argues that while fear can push gold higher, other structural forces like real rates, inflation expectations, and central bank diversification are key drivers that support a generally upward bias.
