  • Encouraging & Equipping

My goodness, where to begin?! These interviews have been so encouraging, they’ve stirred up my imagination, have raised amazing questions and has equipped me for pastoral leadership in the digital and COVID age.

The episode with Gordon Smith on ecclesiology and vocation is worth following this channel all on its own (but I encourage you, don’t stop there!). So good! Well done everyone!

  • So encouraged

I’m so thankful for this podcast. I love listening to people who love Jesus and are sharing lessons from their journey. It has been an encouragement to me as I seek to serve Jesus and minister to others as He has called me. I often connect with the struggles that Jason or the guest shares. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Heath Hardesty on How Imagination Shapes the Way We See the World, the Disintegration of Our Present Age, and His Book All Things Together.
Q: What is the core idea behind apprenticeship and how it shapes pastoral practice?
Apprenticeship begins with union, then moves to abiding, obeying, and imaging, forming believers into the likeness of Jesus through a relational, hands-on process that integrates practice with spiritual formation.
Jay Kim on Ministry in the Age of AI, Pastoring in Silicon Valley, and Offering a Non-Anxious Presence in a Digital World
Q: Can you tell us about WestGate Church and what led you back to lead there after your time in Santa Cruz?
Jay explains that WestGate is a multi-congregational church in Silicon Valley, and after challenging years in Santa Cruz and a period of discernment, he returned with a renewed sense of vocation, humility, and a commitment to shepherding a diverse community.
John Ortberg on How Pastoring Forms the Pastor, Why Many Churches Struggle with Discipleship, and Arranging Your Life for Joy and Contentment
Q: How do we invite people into a whole other way of being in the world with God?
We must help people attain a vision of how good God is and what kind of person they would become by truly following Him.
Phil Reinders on a Shared Rule of Life, Recovering Ancient Paths, and Being a Missionary to Canada
Q: What themes have you discovered in your pastoral journey across different cities and churches?
The mission of God has always been central to my pastoral ministry, seeing myself as a missionary to Canada due to the declining connection of people to church.
Chris Dias on Discerning a Call to Ministry, Raising up Pastors, and the Cost of Being a Sending Church
Q: What would you want to communicate to men or women in a similar position as you, who love the local church, but have built their career outside of a role in the local church?
I would encourage them to consider the call to ministry through prayer and mentorship, and to be open to God's leading in their lives.
