  • Disappointing

Listened to Joe Cornish episode and the host was woefully underprepared - didn’t know much about the guest or his work, kept calling his film ‘Attack of the Block,’ got confused about Iron Man. Interview was a mess.

    Do some research!

  • Lots of amazing guests

The 4-5 episodes I’ve chosen to listen to so far have all have very good information from the guest speakers that really know their stuff. However, three issues affect this podcast: 1. The sound quality of the speakers. I know these are busy people that don’t have much time, but I REALLY want to understand what they’re saying, and in one episode I’ve listened to the same 15 minutes 4 times now because he’s talking from his cell phone and it’s impossible to get all the information and stay engage... more

  • 20:1 noise to value ratio

The nasal VO announcer will pick at your brain over time. This podcast is just an opportunity for the host to tell some decades-old, quasi relevant story about his proximity to the industry, and how a trailer made waves over 20 years ago. And penis enlargement ads should tell you what this host thinks of his audience.

  • Too many commercials

Host sometimes seems uninterested in what the guest is talking about.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

BPS 470: Why 99% of Indie Films NEVER Get Distribution with Bill Ostroff
Q: What can writers and directors do to set their indie film apart from everything else out there?
Start branding early—secure domain names and social profiles, maintain consistent artwork, and build a dedicated audience from day one. Use social media strategically to grow champions who will spread the word and support the project, and consider testing scenes or short clips to attract investors.
BPS 471: Why Most Creators Never Finish Their Film (Hard Truth) with James Altucher
Q: How long have you been doing the 10 Ideas a day, and how much time do you put into researching your guests?
He has been doing 10 ideas a day since 2002, and he spends extensive time researching guests, often 40-50 hours for a single hour-long interview.
BPS 466: The Screenwriting Software Changing How Writers Work with Guy Goldstein
Q: What do you hope writers take away about tools versus creativity?
Tools should disappear into the writing process; writers should feel empowered and inspired, not bogged down by software, and the best tools are those that dramatically improve collaboration and the ability to capture ideas wherever you are.
BPS 466: The Screenwriting Software Changing How Writers Work with Guy Goldstein
Q: What feature development surprised you with its impact or difficulty?
Parallel columns and multi-directional layout for parallel scenes were incredibly complex, yet the most successful features were those aligned with the product vision, like branch drafts and ghost mode, which dramatically improved collaboration and privacy during development.
BPS 466: The Screenwriting Software Changing How Writers Work with Guy Goldstein
Q: Guy, how do you see the parallels between coding and screenwriting in terms of building WriterDuet?
I see both as systems where you break down a big vision into tractable parts, then iterate based on feedback. The goal is to make the process feel seamless so writers can focus on storytelling rather than wrestling with the tool.
