  • Exceptional teacher for nervous system understanding!

I normally love long format podcasts but Leah can cover topics in short form but with so much depth. I love that this podcast has actionable strategies for actual healing. I feel like most of the time is spent on what we can do not just talking about the problem. This podcast is full of hope and optimism. She has a wealth of knowledge and a gift for presenting and teaching. She uses great examples and analogies. This is a gem in the world f podcast and I give it my highest recommendation!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Judicious Giving Up with Guest Dawn Friedman
Q: How should parents approach recurring parenting challenges?
Recognize that some problems will recur and that each occurrence is an opportunity to learn more about yourselves and your child, adjusting plans and skills over time rather than attempting one perfect solution.
Judicious Giving Up with Guest Dawn Friedman
Q: What is Judicious Giving Up and how does it apply to parenting?
It's a foundation for letting go of trying to fix every issue immediately and instead identifying which areas to address now based on capacity, values, and developmental readiness, allowing progress in smaller, meaningful steps.
Nervous System Regulation and Intimacy with Dr. Sonia Wright
Q: What signs indicate a dysregulated nervous system in midlife women?
Common signs include persistent energy surges and restlessness, anxiety, overthinking, irritability, or conversely fatigue and withdrawal. There can be physical symptoms like gut issues, pain, and sleep disruption, with a pattern where avoidance of danger is overwhelmed by ongoing vigilance, especially around hormonal changes and life transitions.
Nervous System Regulation and Intimacy with Dr. Sonia Wright
Q: What does nervous system regulation mean in simple terms?
It's about how the brain and body communicate and regulate energy, with the goal of being able to respond adaptively to life's demands and return to a calm baseline, not to stay constantly calm. Regulation involves allowing energy when needed and downregulating when appropriate, guided by individual biology and context.
Understanding your Partner’s Nervous System (With Rhonda Farr)
Q: What would you want men married to middle-aged women to know about navigating these changes?
Don't take things personally; recognize that many changes stem from hormonal, emotional, and life-stage shifts. Focus on healing your own nervous system and understanding how you contribute to stress, which can transform the relationship when both partners engage in self-work.
