  • Thanksgiving 2024

I just wanted to say how refreshing this episode was. First and foremost, I am a big fan of the podcast. But I also appreciate the ability of the show and the producers to place value on what really matters during this time of year. Move on from the elections people. The episode was one that wholeheartedly supported the ‘Reason for the Season’. Keep up the good work!!!

  • Not very original or engaging

Hard to make it through an entire episode. Most of the topics are already extensively covered in other podcasts - nothing original.

    Honestly just kind of boring.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mamdani's Manufactured Crisis, World Cup Price Gouging, and Trump's Middle East Revolution
Q: What are the practical hurdles you face when trying to obtain records from agencies, and how do you overcome them?
Agencies use privacy exemptions, redactions, and a bureaucracy that resists disclosure; the Manhattan Institute leverages expertise and resources to litigate and advocate for access, including using appeals or court actions when needed.
Mamdani's Manufactured Crisis, World Cup Price Gouging, and Trump's Middle East Revolution
Q: Explain to our audience what FOIA requests are and why the process matters for transparency.
FOIA provides a tool for the public to access government records, documents, schedules, and meetings to scrutinize how public funds are spent and decisions are made; however, agencies often use exemptions and privacy protections to withhold information, making litigation necessary in some cases.
War Powers, Filibuster Chaos & Standing Up for Women's Sports
Q: Should there be a time limit in appropriation bills for military action?
Yes, there should be clearer triggers, potentially tying funding to congressional authorization to restore shared constitutional power.
War Powers, Filibuster Chaos & Standing Up for Women's Sports
Q: Is the Trump administration doing enough to sell its Iran strategy to Congress and the public?
The consensus is mixed; some argue they are doing okay, but others think a more transparent and argued case would help galvanize congressional support and public understanding.
Mollie Hemingway on Alito | Andy Biggs for Governor | Bob McClure on Election Reform
Q: What surprised you while you wrote the book?
She was surprised by how quiet and reserved Alito is yet has a wicked dry sense of humor, and by the extent of threats and security concerns surrounding the Dobbs leak and decision process.
