I’d be awesome if you guys had Dr. Victoria Martin on again to discuss an updated episode on CMPI and the research she’s been doing, any changes to protocols etc.

  • Amazing discussions, very relatable

I recently have moved and my commute has become longer. The silverning is time to listen to bowel sounds. It's a fantastic resource on all peds GI. Peter, Temara, Jennifer and Jayson are very relatable and navigate the questions like pros. I highly recommend (as I have been) to all peds GI colleagues and pediatricians wanting to learn a bit more about the sorcery that is peds GI.

  • Helpful for primary care too!

Episodes are helpful in my clinical practice as a primary care doc. Especially loved the one about cow milk protein allergy/intolerance/proctocolitis/all the names it has 😂 and the one about social determinants of health and IBD with Dr. Ali from my residency program! Yay Sabina!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lisa Richardson - Ins and Outs of Infant Formulas
Q: How should clinicians approach formula switching when a baby has fussiness or gassiness?
Clinicians should listen carefully to the family's concerns, avoid pressuring toward a single 'perfect' formula, and consider switching within a formula class first (e.g., from standard to partially hydrolyzed before moving to extensively hydrolyzed). Allow several days to two weeks to assess effects, and tailor choices based on digestion, probiotics, and prebiotics, while prioritizing growth monitoring.
Katie Larson-Nath - Faltering Weight
Q: Can you talk to us about the definition of faltering weight and how it differs from the old terminology?
Faltering weight uses standardized Z-score criteria and weight gain velocity, and importantly combines number thresholds with clinical history to decide if a child is at risk, rather than labeling them with blame; it is a screen for risk of malnutrition, not a standalone diagnosis.
Valeria Cohran - Transforming Care for Children with Intestinal Failure
Q: What would you do for a neonate with short bowel syndrome on TPN who develops rising conjugated bilirubin and cholestasis around three months of age?
Transition the patient from composite lipid products to an IV fish oil–based lipid like MEGAVEN; consider accelerating enteral feeding, evaluating for enteral absorptive improvements, and assessing whether adding or adjusting formulas or additives could support adaptation while continuing close monitoring within an intestinal rehabilitation program.
Maureen Leonard - Can We Prevent Celiac Disease?
Q: Where did you grow up and what do you like to do when you go back there?
I grew up in Boston and enjoy walking around the city, visiting museums, and being close to the water.
Maureen Leonard - Can We Prevent Celiac Disease?
Q: Describe yourself in one sentence to our listeners.
I'm a physician-scientist focused on Celiac disease, as well as a wife and mom, and someone living with Celiac disease.
