  • Just a mom :)

I’ve been binging on your podcast this week. It’s so informative for me as a mom on the other side of the exam table. I find the tips really useful and the dad jokes and puns amusing :) Thank you for tackling all the subjects (common place to polarizing) with such decorum. And shout out from a VCU alumni (Art school) :)

  • Engaging

I found Cribsiders only last week and have enjoyed a few episodes already. Originally I was interested because the name drew me in. I opened my own concierge infant practice in Florida this year named Crib Calls. However, given the current topics, engaging hosts, and reliable information, I will be listening often not just because of the shared name.

  • Highly recommend

Love this podcast! I have been in practice for many years but I learn a great deal with each episode. Even if it is about a subspecialty subject I gain better understanding of the topic and learn when to refer and what workup is appropriate.

S7 Ep175: Live! Small Doses, Big Changes: Updates in Obesity Medicine with GLP-1s
Q: What are the key considerations for monitoring and adjusting GLP-1 therapy in kids?
Monitor for nausea, gastrointestinal effects, and weight trajectory; ensure adequate protein intake and exercise to preserve lean mass; check vitamins/minerals due to appetite changes; adjust dose gradually and consider adjunct therapies when needed; reassess comorbidities after BMI improvements.
S7 Ep175: Live! Small Doses, Big Changes: Updates in Obesity Medicine with GLP-1s
Q: Which GLP-1 medications are approved for children, and what about future options?
Semaglutide (Wegovi) and liraglutide (Saxenda) are approved for ages 12 and up; other drugs like tirzepatide (Monjaro) and oral semaglutide are expanding in adults first with gradual consideration for younger ages as studies and trials progress; future approvals for younger children are anticipated as more data emerge.
S7 Ep175: Live! Small Doses, Big Changes: Updates in Obesity Medicine with GLP-1s
Q: How do you define when to start pharmacotherapy in a pediatric patient with obesity?
The decision is individualized, starting earlier when obesity is more severe (class 2 or 3) or when comorbidities are present, and more cautiously for milder cases with good response to lifestyle changes; the aim is to balance potential benefits with risks and anticipated adherence.
S7 Ep174: Suicide Prevention and Safety Planning: Approaching Adolescent Mental Health Crises
Q: How do you handle involving caregivers given confidentiality concerns with minors?
Establish confidentiality expectations early, frame safety planning as a team effort, and when necessary, involve caregivers with the youth's consent or in cases where safety requires disclosure, using a careful, compassionate handoff and shared safety goals.
S7 Ep174: Suicide Prevention and Safety Planning: Approaching Adolescent Mental Health Crises
Q: How should clinicians approach screening for suicidal ideation in a busy pediatric setting?
Use brief, validated tools like the ASQ or PHQ-9, ensure privacy, normalize the discussion, clarify intent and plans, and always translate screening results into a safety plan and next steps, including involving caregivers when appropriate.
