  • Doesn’t feel authentic

The conversations aren’t very practical but it also feels over-edited and unnatural.

  • Can’t get this anywhere else!

Great knowledge about the PE industry. On top of that there are some really inspiring stories being told on this podcast. The “life hacks” portion is a fun tidbit that many of the episodes have. I look forward to each episode. And this is from someone who normally listens to crime podcasts. Keep up the good work!

Private Equity Business Development in a Crowded Market with Tyler Ashley
Q: How has the role of business development evolved in private equity, and what differentiates top BD teams today?
BD has evolved from a peripheral function to a core capability that drives sourcing, marketing to sellers, and direct outreach to founders. Top teams differentiate by having larger, specialized groups, deep firm theses, and a strategic approach to building proprietary deal flow beyond traditional intermediaries.

McNally focuses on founder- and family-led deals, uses a dedicated Atlas value creation framework, and leverages the McNally Network Advantage to bring in industry experts and board members. The approach is end-to-end and highly collaborative, with emphasis on long-term value creation across operations, technology, and human capital.

Q: What is the next 10 years of PE look like in your mind?
The next decade will require value creation through innovation, long-horizon planning, and differentiation as passive capital and competition increase; firms must take calculated risks and leverage a team-based approach.

Q: Walk me through the first six months, what it's like to be partnering with you. What does Bertram do in terms of what can they expect from Bertram Labs and the people on your board?
Bertram Labs gets involved pre-close with management, assigns a lab team to learn the business, and starts applying IT and operational improvements quickly to set a trajectory for the company.

Q: When you get a SIEM or your team's looking at SIEM, you're looking at a company for the first time, what are the big things that you're looking for that say, you know what, this could be a Bertram company?
Two primary filters: a large total addressable market (TAM) for future growth and high gross margins that indicate defensible value and the potential for scalable value creation.
