I first went in at 18yrs old and thought the ‘screws’ were the enemy. Gradually the more often I went back inside the correctional officers became more human to me. The last time I went in at 40yrs old I related more to the officers who I realised were just regular folk, than the degenerate scum I was forced to share cells with. Good work Michael Duffey.
I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast and found it informative about what goes on inside prison and on the outside. It’s given me a broader understanding of parole and it’s intention for parolees in the community. I’m not sure why it’s only got 4*. I haven’t read the 1* reviews.
It’s only a six-part series and is meant to be more of a factual account of how the system runs.
If you’re looking for accounts of prison stories, this isn’t it, but it’s really no less entertaining - and I am a true crime ... more
All of the officers describe inmates correctly but they don’t describe themselves correctly.
I have not met a correctional officer that even comes close to the way they are describing themselves in this podcast.
Understanding of trauma? No
Understanding of mental health? No
Understanding that family connection is important? No
I’ve never been spoken to nicely by a corrections officer. They have been authoritative and insensitive.
Punitive punishment to correct behaviour is still used. What’... more
100 percent drivel here. Deceitful propoganda. A PR exercise that to say is even clumsy is a gross understatement. Calculated and orchestrated lies throughout. Listen for comedy reasons only.....but have a bucket handy
