Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Framework for Classical Education with Lindsey Ralls (Series: What is Classical Christian Education?)
Q: Why emphasize formation over information?
Because forming a student's character and virtues prepares them to navigate the world with wisdom, rather than merely compiling facts that may be forgotten when tests are over.
A Framework for Classical Education with Lindsey Ralls (Series: What is Classical Christian Education?)
Q: What is classical Christian education at its core?
At its core, it's paideia—transferring time-tested traditions and values across generations, shaping students through virtue, formation, and the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty, rather than only focusing on information.
The Art of Friendship with Dirk Bellamy
Q: How can we structure family life to ensure a child's social development includes meaningful friendships?
Incorporate intentional routines (e.g., scheduled activities with a focus on deeper conversations), encourage face-to-face interaction, and consciously invest time in helping kids meet and connect with peers who share core values.
The Art of Friendship with Dirk Bellamy
Q: What practical steps can parents take to teach kids how to make and keep friends?
Parents should model and coach deliberate friendship practices: define important traits on a list, schedule regular, face-to-face time for conversations, and guide kids through the progression from casual to close relationships.
The Art of Friendship with Dirk Bellamy
Q: When do you leave acquaintance land and become a friend, and what does a real friend look like versus an acquaintance?
A real friend is someone you invest in over time, with regular, deeper conversations (moving beyond small talk) and a willingness to share life and burdens; a few close friends—about three—are manageable and meaningful.
