  • In the weeds

My first time listening to this podcast. My first time reviewing any podcast.

It was like shooting a lead ball from a smooth bore. It is going somewhere just not sure where. Very hard to follow.

I hunt with hand loaded Barnes bullets. Many Cape Buffalo with the 300 TSX.

  • Great Podcast

The Barnes guys are great to listen to. They provide a lot of detailed information about the Barnes offerings and are obviously very knowledgeable. I wish they would be more consistent with a weekly podcast instead of how it has been. Their YouTube videos were great as well but it seems their channel was taken down for some reason. Keep up the great work!

Are You Using the Right Hunting Bullet? TSX vs TTSX vs LRX vs TAC-TX - #BallisticsBriefs
Q: sleeper pick for a cartridge that you wouldn't think actually outperforms itself in every one of those for a TSX, a TTSX, a LRX and a Tac-Tx.
For TSX, consider the 150 flat-nose in 30-30; for TTSX, a strong all-around choice remains the 338-225; for LRX, the 139 or 145 grain in 7mm-08 demonstrates impressive balance of BC and terminal performance; for Tac-Tx, the 90 grain 6MM variant across calibers (including 6ARC) shows strong performance due to optimized function at lower velocities. These sleeper picks illustrate that even cartridge-specific bullets can outperform expectations when matched to the gun's velocity and penetration needs.
Are You Using the Right Hunting Bullet? TSX vs TTSX vs LRX vs TAC-TX - #BallisticsBriefs
Q: Tell me the differences of why I might want to shoot a TSX, a TTSX, an LRX, or even our Tac-Tx.
The TSX is a solid-copper, non-tipped design that expands quickly with large frontal diameter and excellent weight retention for deep penetration and broad applicability at shorter to mid ranges. The TTSX adds a polymer tip to improve ballistic efficiency and BC, making it a go-to for many users who want a versatile, long-range capable option while preserving weight retention. The LRX focuses on maximizing BC and long-range expansion, with a design that favors performance at lower velocities and longer shots, sometimes shedding pedal fragments but delivering strong terminal energy. The Tac-Tx shares the same base materials but is tuned for gas-gun cartridges and carbine-length barrels, providing effective performance at lower function windows while remaining suitable for hunting. In short, TSX = forgiving generalist, TTSX = optimized generalist with better BC, LRX = long-range with higher BC and controlled expansion, Tac-Tx = gas-gun friendly long-range hunting option.
Why The .308 Win Might Be the Only Hunting Cartridge You Actually Need - #BallisticsBriefs
Q: Tell me the differences of why I might want to shoot a TSX, a TTSX, an LRX, or even our Tac TX.
Greg outlines how the TSX is a non-tipped, four-pedal copper design with strong penetration and weight retention for closer ranges; the TTSX adds a polymer tip for better ballistic performance and higher BC; the LRX pushes long-range performance with greater BC and a design that expands at low velocity, while the Tac TX matches LRX-like behavior at lower velocities for gas-gun cartridges.
Does Muzzle Velocity Matter? Bullet Expansion & Function Windows Explained - #BallisticsBriefs
Q: So today, I've got Mitchell Cookson with me, and I'm going to ask him why should people be more worried about what their impact velocity is to understand the function windows of those bullets?
The guest emphasizes that muzzle velocity is less important than the impact velocity your bullet experiences at the actual range of your shot. He explains that you must run trajectory data using true velocities for the specific rifle and load, because the same muzzle velocity can translate into different impact velocities depending on barrel length, distance, and the chosen bullet type. He also notes Barnes tailors bullets to velocity windows (e.g., TSX, TTSX, LRX) and that selection should be driven by the range you shoot most often and the specific hunting scenario.
Why Copper Bullets Beat Lead—No BS, Just Facts #BallisticsBriefs
Q: Why copper over lead?
Copper offers consistency, stronger weight retention, deeper penetration, and reliable expansion across calibers, which translates to predictable terminal performance and the ability to hunt large game or use subcaliber options with confidence.
