    John

Long time listener. Been ill and in & out of hospital for several months. Lost track of your afternoon radio show. Are you still broadcasting? If so, what AM/FM station?

    Thanks, John.

  • Short Format

John we need a longer show. What happened? I feel like I’m getting less or we’re all getting less. I’m just a fan of the longer formats and you used to have one this is a bummer. I’m a driver for work and I burn through one of your 20 min shows fast. Can we get more content? We want more content from you and your opinions like before. Just consider it please 👊🏻

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

BFT Show: Three-time champion Drew Woolworth sounds off on history
Q: What was it like to become the first three-time state champion in Oregon 6A history?
It felt surreal and historic, but more importantly it reinforced that consistent mindset and preparation, along with support from family and coaches, helped me perform at a high level across different courses.
BFT Show: 70+ People Fired... plus, a visit from "Sister Krista" von Borstel
Q: What is the relationship between the new ownership and the fan base in Portland?
The host argues that the ownership under Dundon has damaged fan trust by prioritizing cost-cutting over community connections, suggesting a misalignment with what Portland fans value in their teams.
BFT Show: Guests Dick Jerardi (Kentucky Derby) and Bryce Fisher (PGA Championship qualifier)
Q: Bryce Fisher, what does it feel like to qualify for the PGA Championship and how are you approaching the event?
Fisher describes the surreal, gradual realization and stresses staying mentally sound, maintaining focus, and treating it as a regular tournament while preparing with his team and family.
BFT Show: Interview with "Sports Tax Man" Robert Raiola on NIL, athlete taxes, loopholes, and more
Q: What practical steps can athletes take to reduce tax exposure when negotiating deals or bonuses?
Athletes and their advisors can structure contracts with signing bonuses that are payable upfront and not contingent on performance, enabling favorable tax treatment in high-tax states; consider residency changes or strategizing around which state is the primary tax home; use pension plans like SEP to defer taxes; and ensure sign-offs allow electronic filing to streamline preparation.
BFT Show: Interview with "Sports Tax Man" Robert Raiola on NIL, athlete taxes, loopholes, and more
Q: How does NIL income interact with traditional state tax rules for athletes who live in one state but play in another?
NIL income is taxed based on residency like other income, and athletes can often owe taxes in their home state while also earning credits for taxes paid to other states where they played or earned income. The guest explains that residency drives where income is taxed, while other states may offer credits to alleviate double taxation, and that planning can help minimize overall liability.
