  • Thanks

As a US Pony Club mom (and a non-equestrian myself) trying to help my daughter figure out the world of college recruiting, this pod cast gave me some much needed insight into this hard to navigate world. I’m thankful to say my daughter landed a spot on NCEA SEC team and is now a junior. I loved all the interviews and insight. My one request is to offer a bit more info on NCEA.

  • Helpful to hear about different paths to riding in college!

I’m also an IEA mom, and not a horse person, so this podcast gives me a glimpse of what opportunities might lie ahead for my daughter.

#188 Emory Henry Lindsay Shaw
Q: How did you choose Emory & Henry and what role did scholarships play?
Scholarships, including a school-based scholarship won through a horse show, were pivotal in Molly's (Lindsay's) decision, narrowing her search to Emory & Henry as the right fit.
#187 Keiser University Assistant Coach Catherine Poppen-Eagan
Q: So let's talk about the Keiser team first. Tell us where it is, how big is the school, where's the barn, just everything about it.
Keiser's flagship campus is in West Palm Beach, Florida, with the barn located about 20-30 minutes away in Loxahatchee; the team competes in IHSA and Dressage Seat Equitation, and works with a single roster that currently includes 11 riders across both hunting-seat and dressage disciplines.
#189 Unwanted by Christina Keim
Q: How did the book evolve from a thesis into a bigger project, and what core findings shaped your approach?
The author describes finishing an MFA, delving into data and interviews, and recognizing the complexity of the issue, including how ownership, economics, and ethics intersect to affect horse welfare and the broader rescue ecosystem.
#189 Unwanted by Christina Keim
Q: What started this topic for you and what made you so interested in it that it has turned into a full book?
Christina explains that her long history as an equestrian writer led her to focus on stories of the underdog and that the topic expanded from an initial essay to a full book as she researched the systemic factors behind horse welfare, rescue networks, and the slaughter pipeline.
#192 Michael Lenard & Horsespot
Q: How was Horse Spot born and what does it do?
Horse Spot emerged when the co-founders recognized a need for better tech in the horse show space; it began as a collaboration between siblings and a sister-in-law with strong design skills, evolving into a cloud-based platform that supports a wide range of horse show formats.
