  • They Support and are sponsored by Predatory companies.

Hello, I am just a little shocked that there is no accountability with an organization that claims to support authors. I paid for their membership and I believed I could trust their watchdog list, but was taken advantage of one of their highly rated members/partners/sponsors. Gatekeeper Press is one of this podcasts sponsors and in their ad even promises 100% satisfaction. There is nothing stating that if you are not satisfied they will force you to sign an NDA before offering any solutions. The... more

Q: You've built a platform around FBI stories and indie publishing. How did that start, and what role did publishing choices play in it?

Building Bookstore Relationships Through Goodwill: Member Q&A with Michael La Ronn and Sacha Black
Q: How can I monetize a podcast centered on HIV/AIDS or related topics while maintaining ethical considerations and audience growth?
Monetization typically comes after establishing a solid download base; consider sponsorships, a Patreon for bonus content, and linking podcast topics to related books or courses while expanding content focus to adjacent areas to avoid running out of topics.
Building Bookstore Relationships Through Goodwill: Member Q&A with Michael La Ronn and Sacha Black
Q: What should I do if a bookstore won't carry my book even after following these steps?
Accept that some stores won't stock your title; focus on the friendly retailers and continue visible outreach, using goodwill-building tactics like bookmarks and bookplates to stay top of mind and encourage future purchases when opportunities arise.
Building Bookstore Relationships Through Goodwill: Member Q&A with Michael La Ronn and Sacha Black
Q: I'm struggling to get my novel in independent bookshops. Is there a way around being listed as firm and what can I do to improve the situation?
Contact Gardners to understand the exact settings that prevent the book from being labeled as firm; consider returns if that helps, but be mindful of the financial implications. Build direct outreach to queer-friendly indie bookstores, offer signed editions and value-added materials, and repeatedly engage rather than relying on a single tactic.
