  • Not a great first encounter with this podcast

I listened to my first episode of this podcast today and the host had the same word for word answer to everything the guest was saying, which was “I love that ,that’s fantastic”. It was incredibly repetitive and really diminished the value of this guest in my opinion. It comes across as unprepared and inattentive and doesn’t make me want to listen to more of this podcast at all. It’s a shame because I think she has a lot to say about writing and structuring series, but that information was burie... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

AI Narration vs. Human Narration
Q: Were the human narrations in the study produced by multiple people or a single narrator?
The study used a human narration baseline for comparison and then contrasted it with spoken multicast AI; the purpose was to measure relative performance and listener perception rather than replicate a full cast against AI.
AI Narration vs. Human Narration
Q: Why is the time the right time to bring this study to the public?
Because the combination of high-fidelity AI voice capabilities and a solid, independent research partner can provide timely, actionable insights for publishers and authors making real-world production decisions.
The Author Nation Community
Q: What sets Author Nation apart from other conferences?
The event combines a data-informed approach to programming, a strong emphasis on authentic peer networks and mentorship, and integrated support across live and digital channels, including foundations and year‑round resources, to help authors build sustainable careers.
Ask Us Anything: The Smashwords Sale
Q: Connie asks how changing prices works during enrollment and how it affects other retailers.
Prices are handled via coupon-based promotions for Smashwords store enrollment; other retailers are not price-dropped, and coupon codes are generated to reflect the Smashwords discount, avoiding price changes on external sites.
Connecting with Fans: Building the Author - Reader Relationship
Q: What is the line between having readers and having a community?
Having a community means you can have ongoing conversations with readers and respond to them, rather than just receiving one-off book sales; platforms like newsletters and Patreon support this dialogue.
