  • Not a great first encounter with this podcast

I listened to my first episode of this podcast today and the host had the same word for word answer to everything the guest was saying, which was “I love that ,that’s fantastic”. It was incredibly repetitive and really diminished the value of this guest in my opinion. It comes across as unprepared and inattentive and doesn’t make me want to listen to more of this podcast at all. It’s a shame because I think she has a lot to say about writing and structuring series, but that information was burie... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Connecting with Fans: Building the Author - Reader Relationship
Q: What is the line between having readers and having a community?
Having a community means you can have ongoing conversations with readers and respond to them, rather than just receiving one-off book sales; platforms like newsletters and Patreon support this dialogue.
Connecting with Fans: Building the Author - Reader Relationship
Q: Beth asks, now, how do I find what my readers want when I have so few readers? Do I write what I want and see what comes of it?
Yes, start with writing what you love but also observe what resonates by listening to early feedback, reading within your genre, and experimenting with small releases; use early readers to gauge interests.
Pivoting Your Career: Finding What Works for You
Q: What was the moment you knew it was time to walk away from risk management and try writing full-time?
The decision came after a big incident that made her realize life is short, accompanied by a formal plan: a 10-year vision, a 5-year plan, and rigorous market research, all while maintaining reserves to weather the transition.
3 Areas Where Authors Should Focus
Q: Another audience question, how do I stay with one brand when I like many different things?
Ask why you write and choose a path that matches your long-term goals—either hobby writing, a side hustle with a business mindset, or a full-time career with a scalable business—then structure your branding and output accordingly.
3 Areas Where Authors Should Focus
Q: First, from our own Lexi Green. She says, as an author with two pen names, how is it different balancing two different brands? What are the benefits and drawbacks of juggling two author brands?
The balance depends on how clearly you define the purpose of each pen name; modern retailers are smarter about recognizing separate brands, but you must still deliver clear product clarity to avoid confusing readers and hurting conversion.
