  • New format

Used to love this podcast when she answered viewers questions. The new format of the podcast with the interviews just doesn’t do it for me. This used to be the highlight of my week. Disappointing.

I have listened to AKA for several years now and have found the shows to be incredibly helpful and informative. BUT What has happened?? I’ve listened to the recent episodes and been very disappointed. Please bring your old format back.

  • Fun, informative, realize I’m not the only one

I have binged all the shows and eagerly await every Thursday when the new episodes are released. Katie does an amazing job of explaining the hows and whys of things people experience without ever making anyone feel stupid for asking. I have learned so much from her, and a lot about myself too.

Escaping Narcissistic Circles: A 4-Step Filter for Your Life
Q: How do you decide which pillar to apply in a difficult relationship?
You assess impact on your energy and time, start with manage to see if you can contain the interaction, and if not, move to block or mute as a temporary boundary while you evaluate whether a longer-term change is needed.
Escaping Narcissistic Circles: A 4-Step Filter for Your Life
Q: Tell me about unsubscribed, and how the four pillars work in real life.
Unsubscribe is a four-pillar framework designed to help people reclaim time, energy, and boundaries. In practice, you start with manage to assess how much time you spend with someone, then block if needed, consider swap to replace unhealthy patterns, and use mute as a temporary reset to protect yourself while you reassess.
"Is Therapy Supposed to Feel This Hard?"
Q: What is the next step for meaninglessness and depression when connections aren't available?
Depression can be affected by connection, but meaning also comes from personal fulfilment; seek to build new connections (e.g., reopen groups), consult a psychiatrist for potential treatment adjustments, and pursue CBT or other therapies with a therapist you feel connected to in order to find meaningful activities and relationships.
"Is Therapy Supposed to Feel This Hard?"
Q: What should I do about a parole hearing affecting trauma processing and how to talk to my therapist about abuse history?
Work with your therapist to prepare for possible triggers, express your concerns openly, and share the abuse history gradually so the therapist can hold space and guide you through it without judgment; stories and support are crucial in influencing others and coping with the aftermath.
"Is Therapy Supposed to Feel This Hard?"
Q: How do I handle weed use when coping with trauma and eating disorders, and how to involve my therapist?
Acknowledge weed as a coping mechanism that can impede trauma processing; be honest with your therapist, consider reducing usage, involve a dietician if eating disorders are present, and possibly explore antidepressant or alternative treatments with a psychiatrist; keep the therapist informed to avoid referrals you don't want and to align on a plan.
