  • Love the podcast- fix the glitches and noises

Love this podcast. Always so thoughtful and really appreciate that it is getting people to read and think about things that matter.

There’s a noise-like a camera shutter, every few minutes on the apple pod. Not sure about other formats. It’s startling. Literally every few minutes.

Loud. And takes you out of the interview. Maybe take a peek at that. Otherwise great.

  • Great but

The podcast is really great, but the clicking sound is very distracting and off-putting. It would be great if they could fix the issue.

Historian: The Untold Story of WWII's Most Fascinating Person - Geoffrey Roberts
Q: Can great powers with fundamentally different systems ever grow to trust each other long enough to solve a common problem like they did in the Second World War?
Roberts suggests that, in the wartime context, personal relationships and direct, high-level diplomacy played a crucial role in building trust and achieving cooperation, though the postwar breakdown showed that such trust is fragile and not guaranteed to endure without ongoing commitment.
You Can't Understand America Without Understanding New York - Russell Shorto
Q: How did the English and Dutch resolve their conflict in the end?
Rather than a violent showdown, leaders like Nichols and Stuyvesant forged a pragmatic merger of identities that allowed the colony to continue thriving under British rule, laying groundwork for New York's future as a global hub.
You Can't Understand America Without Understanding New York - Russell Shorto
Q: What made the Dutch settlement different in terms of culture and economy?
The Dutch pioneered pluralism and capitalism in a way that welcomed multiple languages and religions, creating a vibrant market-oriented society that attracted traders and settlers, which later influenced the English takeover.
You Can't Understand America Without Understanding New York - Russell Shorto
Q: Tell us about the origin of New Amsterdam and how it became New York.
Shorto explains that New Amsterdam evolved from a Dutch port town into New York through English conquest, but the transformation preserved a multilinguistic, tolerant, and commerce-driven DNA that underpinned the city's later power.
The Rise and Fall of a Tech Titan - Katie Prescott
Q: Tell us about Mike Lynch and why his story matters in the tech world.
Katie Prescott explains Lynch's trajectory from a bright student in Cambridge to founder of Autonomy, his rise through the tech boom, and the legal battles that followed, framing it as a cautionary tale about ambition and accountability in tech leadership.
