  • Love the podcast- fix the glitches and noises

Love this podcast. Always so thoughtful and really appreciate that it is getting people to read and think about things that matter.

There’s a noise-like a camera shutter, every few minutes on the apple pod. Not sure about other formats. It’s startling. Literally every few minutes.

Loud. And takes you out of the interview. Maybe take a peek at that. Otherwise great.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ex-CIA Officer: America Has a 20% Chance of Splitting Apart - James Telfer
Q: What makes this a cautionary tale rather than a prediction?
The book presents plausible scenarios and focuses on human choices—how people in power, media, and the public respond when institutions are stressed—so readers see the costs of division and the value of unity and balanced discourse.
Ex-CIA Officer: America Has a 20% Chance of Splitting Apart - James Telfer
Q: Tell us about your background and what motivated you to write this book.
I spent 25 years in the CIA, and after retirement I found writing to be a way to process what I'd seen. The idea for a fictional exploration of national fracture came from watching real-world polarization and thinking through how it might play out in a future context.
July 2026 Q&A: Will I Run For Office? How I Read So Much? How To Fix The American Education System?
Q: Would you ever run for office knowing how it all works?
The host acknowledges the difficulty and potential dishonesty involved, suggesting it would be hard to pursue, but he remains open to reform-oriented, common-sense approaches and indicates willingness to consider it with his partner's input.
He Repaired My Marriage And Then We Lost Him Forever - Mike Maimone
Q: What role did Howard Bragman play in your life and in the book?
Howard served as a crisis communications mentor and friend whose guidance and personal support shaped the narrative, with the book acting as a tribute to his legacy and influence on Mike's life and career.
The Truth About Guns In America They Don't Want You To Know! - Mike McIntire
Q: And what is Citizens United?
Citizens United is a Supreme Court decision from January 2010 that held corporations and wealthy individuals can spend unlimited money in politics as part of First Amendment rights, leading to a dramatic increase in money in the political process and a corresponding influence on policy.
