  • Questionable?

The show with the guy promoting his 3x bar should frankly be pulled off the air. Putting aside the product placement, and the fact that he is a pretty terrible interviewee, he’s downright dangerous. If you want to promote disordered eating, this guy and his 20 grams max of carbs is your man. Seriously? Counting the carbs in chimichurri sauce? No thanks. I will try some other episodes, but man,

    Not a good look

The 5 Pillars of Becoming a Better Man with Nick Freitas
Q: How important are macros, and should someone focus on them during a weight loss journey?
Macros are a useful tool but not the only path; a sustainable approach is to maintain a calorie deficit, monitor progress, and adjust gradually. Resistance training and overall lifestyle changes matter more for long-term success than strict macro counting.
Ethan Suplee on Starting Again
Q: I'm 46 by four and 187 pounds and have never felt comfortable in my body. I've tried every diet, but gained it all back and more, and even tried embracing this bigger body with the healthy at any size movement, but after getting blood work done last year and finding out I have visceral fat around my liver, I set out to tackle this chronic issue once and for all. I've spent the better part of a year learning about food and macros. I've started working out and lifting weights. Because of these things, I've lost a tiny bit of weight, but nothing real, which is fine because I'm trying to understand the why, my triggers and what my body actually needs. All of this is to say, I'm finally at the point that I'm tracking in an honest effort and trying to find my maintenance weight. Where do you recommend I find good information on maintenance? I've heard you say to take breaks in the deficit and learn how to maintain for the life you lead after the weight loss. Do you have any resources that teach this or really explain how?
A set of recommended books provides detailed guidance on maintenance, including Bigger Leaner Stronger, Fat Loss for Life, Reverse Dieting, and Renaissance Diet 2.0. The guest emphasizes that maintenance can be studied in stages, suggesting short maintenance blocks or longer ones depending on goals, and stresses treating maintenance as lifelong practice rather than a temporary phase. He also highlights that maintenance may vary per individual and that gradual, sustainable strategies—such as gradually increasing calories and recognizing when to adjust—are more effective than aggressive cuts. Finally, he notes that maintenance is a normal, ongoing part of a healthy lifestyle, not a one-time endpoint.
Ethan Episode: What Impact Does Sleep Have on Weight Loss
Q: Janet asks about non-alcoholic drinks at dinner and whether they are a good substitute for going alcohol-free, plus how to stay social without compromising health.
Ethan explains that non-alcoholic options can help maintain social momentum and reduce sugar intake, and suggests choosing options like sparkling water with lime or NA cocktails if they help you stay on track, as long as the choice supports your goals.
Why Routine Beats Motivation : Brad Jarvis on Volume Eating and Fatherhood
Q: How do you slowly introduce a maintenance phase after dieting down for stage readiness?
Maintenance should be approached gradually, with attention to how the body holds water and how weight can fluctuate with more food and salt, and by ensuring that the maintenance plan doesn't overshoot fat gain week over week while keeping a leaner target for around-the-house life.
Ethan Suplee: Is it Too Late to Get Healthy?
Q: How important are macros?
Macros can be a useful tool for those who want to track nutrients, but they're not a prerequisite for progress. The key is to maintain a sustainable calorie deficit and resistance training, with macros used as needed and adjusted as you gain experience and hit plateaus.
