Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

REPLAY: Physician Parenthood and Well-Being: Lessons from a Successful Parental Wellness Program
Q: How did you measure the program's impact and expand it over time?
We started with open feedback from pilot participants, published results, then added validated well-being and retention metrics, expanded coaching roles, built a centralized resource website, and secured institutional funding to scale.
REPLAY: Physician Parenthood and Well-Being: Lessons from a Successful Parental Wellness Program
Q: What sparked the need for a Parental Wellness Program in your institution?
The need arose from personal experiences balancing trainee years with parenthood, along with observed gaps like lack of lactation spaces and unclear coverage during parental leave, which led to forming a structured support system.
REPLAY: How Value-Based Care Empowers Independent Practices
Q: In terms of your priorities for your practice moving forward, what are you hoping to achieve?
Continue building on Medicare Shared Savings success, expand Medicare Advantage participation, and adapt to different performance metrics and technology needs to sustain high-quality, cost-effective care while preserving independence.
REPLAY: How Value-Based Care Empowers Independent Practices
Q: What is your experience in that with value-based care, and how did your practice get started with it at the initial onset?
We started in 2012 via the patient-centered medical home program, achieving certification in 2014, which required transforming our practice toward population health, data analytics, and quality reporting to participate in value-based contracts.
REPLAY: How Value-Based Care Empowers Independent Practices
Q: Thanks for sharing that. I know that some of our listeners may not be familiar with value-based care. Can you tell our listeners what that means to you personally in your own words?
Value-based care shifts incentives from volume to value, rewarding high-quality care, better patient experiences, and lower costs, with savings shared back to clinicians based on quality metrics.
