  • Must Listen

It’s a great show all around. Every episode they get off on tangents about their lives, non-financial topics, etc. and they’ll usually apologize, but that’s what makes the show great. It’s great financial advice, education, mixed in with humor and normal people. Somehow they’ve pulled off making a finance podcast interesting and worth listening to. One that you’ll get legit value out of, and is able to pull you in to tune in every week.

Excellent podcast. Entertainimg, informative. Retirement planning and personal finance advice. I do not understand the 1 and 2 star ratings. Cannot imagine what those listeners found that is better than Scott and Pat.

  • Don’t waste your time.

Sadly, this podcast has gone downhill. It’s nothing but repeats. The banter between Scott and Pat is new and fresh, but the calls are repeats. Very disappointing.

  • Great show

I have been listening to these two banter since they first started their radio show in Sacramento. I look forward to Saturday mornings just to hear what they have to say. Very entertaining and educational.

How to Reduce Taxes in Retirement & Protect Your Kids’ Inheritance
Q: Is Roth conversion realistic given high income and RMDs?
Consolidate accounts and start distributions at retirement; Roth conversions may not be practical in Randy's case due to ongoing high marginal tax rates, but ongoing tax planning should revisit this.
How to Reduce Taxes in Retirement & Protect Your Kids’ Inheritance
Q: How should Randy approach distributing to heirs via a trust?
Use a living trust with clearly defined distribution rules, consider an independent or professional trustee, and set staged distributions to prevent mismanagement or hasty spending by beneficiaries.
How to Reduce Taxes in Retirement & Protect Your Kids’ Inheritance
Q: What's the biggest planning hurdle for Randy's situation?
The biggest challenge is coordinating an effective estate plan that minimizes taxes, allocates assets to the right heirs, and avoids family conflicts, especially given the size of the net worth and the transfer to one child.
How Much Money Do You Need to Retire? Real Calls on Inheritance and Spending
Q: What is the best way to calculate how much money you would need to retire, and how to split between Social Security and other assets?
The suggested approach is to work backwards from desired lifestyle, consider debt and responsibilities, and use software or inflation-based assumptions to estimate retirement needs. Then, test by starting with small distributions and adjust over time, while ensuring tax efficiency and a cohesive plan across all accounts.
Concentrated Stock Positions: How to Avoid Big Taxes
