  • Please stop calling them “tracks”

Please stop using the word “track” for your residential program. They are NOT tracks, there is 1 group per week for 1 hour for “thirty something and beyond”, “trauma”, substance abuse, etc. This is misleading. I entered res under the impression I was going to be on the “trauma track”, which was a joke.

  • Great Exercise episode!

Thank you for this great episode about exercise! I already shared it with a few other professionals & potential Renfrew’s patients (& families), who struggle with over-exercise. Kristen is a wonderful resource & Spring Lane is lucky to have her. Raising awareness about this is so important. I wish more coaches & doctors would listen to this. Keep up the good work ladies!

  • Psychedelics in the tx of Ed’s

Thank you for hosting this presenter and doing a deep dive into psychedelics in the tx of ED’s. I must say that I am shocked that the hosts did not ask at all about people who struggle with addictions or have a strong family history of drug and alcohol abuse, and if this tx would still be recommended to them. I believe there is no “magic pill” & I was relieved when she covered the importance of safety & trust with the “guide” during this tx because this seems even more important than the substa... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

91. Intimate Partner Violence & Eating Disorders: Narcissistic Abuse, Trauma Bonds, and Treatment Insights with Dr. Lauren Napolitano, PsyD
Q: What are early signs clinicians should look for when IPV co-occurs with an eating disorder?
Look for patterns of isolation, mood instability, secrecy, and subtle controlling behaviors (like food rules or social withdrawal) that may precede overt violence, along with using validated screening tools and a careful, alliance-building approach.
91. Intimate Partner Violence & Eating Disorders: Narcissistic Abuse, Trauma Bonds, and Treatment Insights with Dr. Lauren Napolitano, PsyD
Q: How do you differentiate intimate partner violence from related terms like domestic violence or dating violence?
IPV is a broad umbrella that includes psychological, sexual, and emotional abuse, not just physical violence, and it can occur in current or former intimate relationships; the conversation emphasizes using precise language to reflect these dynamics.
87. Chronic Illnesses, Chronic Pain, & Eating Disorders: Lived Experience and Professional Wisdom with Tamie Gangloff, MA, MFT
Q: Can you share resources or directions for someone seeking support at the intersection of chronic illness and eating disorders?
There are specialized resources for diet-related chronic conditions and groups through ANAD; Tamie has built a referral network and lists on her site to connect people with clinicians experienced in both areas.
87. Chronic Illnesses, Chronic Pain, & Eating Disorders: Lived Experience and Professional Wisdom with Tamie Gangloff, MA, MFT
Q: How do you define recovery for yourself and what does it look like when illness or aging changes your body?
Recovery is a dynamic process on a spectrum; it means living with food, movement, and body image as part of life without letting them define you, and maintaining coping strategies even as the body changes with age or illness.
87. Chronic Illnesses, Chronic Pain, & Eating Disorders: Lived Experience and Professional Wisdom with Tamie Gangloff, MA, MFT
Q: Tamie, what are some of the struggles of folks with chronic illnesses and eating disorders, and what should providers start asking about?
The key is to validate that chronic illness can impact daily life and self-perception; clinicians should routinely ask about pain, fatigue, isolation, and mood, and recognize that body image disturbance can intensify with illness, not just with the eating disorder itself.
