  • Negativity speak

The episode entitled Rubicon was not so much reviewed as skewered. It seemed like the host were looking for things to complain about. The actors, the plot, even the scenery was criticized for no purpose. If you’re going to review a show, there should be at least one person who actually likes it.

  • Thank you

Thank you Laurie and Anthony for being there weekly for my Star Trek talk fix. I’m an old school original Star Trek fan from way back but I am enjoying the abundance of new trek. From Discovery, Prodigy, Lower Decks , Strange New Worlds to Academy there is a lot to like if you keep your mind open to the Star Trek ideals. Is it classic original trek of my generation, no, but I always have that to watch. Does it make missteps, yes, but for a newer generation it has the heart it needs while speakin... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Supplemental — Axelle Carolyn Interview, Director Of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ “The Griffin Incident”
Q: I'd love to know why you're so drawn to horror in particular.
The guest explains that horror has been a constant, comforting element since childhood, with the idea of the supernatural offering a familiar emotional framework even as a kid. She likes exploring fear, the unknown, and the way horror can coexist with science fiction to probe character psychology on top of scares.
Supplemental — Martin Quinn And Dave Foley Interviews For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Q: How did you and Melissa feel about being put in this buddy-cop dynamic, and was there room for improvisation on set?
Quinn notes that improvisation was encouraged by the director, which allowed him to lean into humor while staying within the character's arc, and that working with a strong comedic writer helped balance the delivery with Star Trek's tone, including adapting references across cross-cultural lines.
Supplemental — Martin Quinn And Dave Foley Interviews For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Q: So let's start. What was cool about this season's dynamic between Scotty and Ortegas and how did you develop chemistry for the buddy-cop setup?
Martin Quinn explains that the writers crafted a surprising but inevitable shift toward a buddy-cop dynamic, emphasizing how each character's ego and approach create tension yet also chemistry, with direction from Yana and strong writing by Catherine Lin helping the pair find an informal, on-location vibe that differs from the more formal shipboard interactions.
Supplemental – ‘Strange New Worlds’ S4 Preview + Interviews With Bill Wolkoff & Melissa Navia
Q: So I know that climate issues are important to you, but can you just tell me a little bit about why you're here today and how you feel that ties into your work, particularly in Star Trek?
Wolkoff explains that Star Trek's aspirational, post-scarcity future informs his environmental advocacy, and that the show's storytelling aims to promote a mindset shift toward sustainable, cooperative futures in both space exploration and on Earth.
‘Beam Me Up, Sulu’ Documentary Directors & George Takei Interviews + Star Trek News Wrapup
Q: How did you approach portraying sensitive historical topics like internment camps?
They describe using animation to depict flashbacks, ensuring the portrayal respects the gravity of the subject while providing accessible storytelling, and they emphasize George Takei's own history and perspective to ground the film in authenticity.
