For a podcast that includes how it’s “creator-owned, listener-supported” in every episode intro, there’s a conspicuous absence of a mention as to who makes the podcast for those creators. My close friend Mischa Stanton, a 15 year podcast design/editing veteran, goes uncredited in 117-and-counting episodes. That’s not just disappointing, it’s antithetical to Aftermath’s stated position as creators. It’s a failure to fulfill basic best practices of creation. Maybe they change the way they intro/ou... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lost In The Backrooms
Q: Why is backrooms culture resonant with younger audiences, and how does the film adaptation relate to that phenomenon?
Younger audiences have grown up consuming vast amounts of online content and participatory media; the Backrooms film taps into that trend by translating an internet meme into a social, cinematic experience that invites active viewing and discussion, though translating online phenomenon to cinema is complex.
Lost In The Backrooms
Q: What was the goal behind the Unearthed Treasure Room showcase, and how does it differ from mainstream game showcases?
The goal was to surface smaller, overlooked games through video essays, focusing on what makes them interesting rather than selling them with trailers; it's about spreading discovery and encouraging others to engage with these titles.
Bummer Game Fest
Q: What was the vibe at Summer Game Fest this year compared to previous years?
Overall, attendees seemed more positive than last year, but the press and journalists felt the event was overshadowed by the ongoing corporate turmoil and the looming layoffs, making the celebration feel more muted than in past years.
A New (Forza) Horizon
Q: Can you first give us a little bit of background on your show and also your history as a journalist and all of those things?
Jordan explains that the Tran Girlismo project started earlier in the year with unexpected success, and shares a decade-long career beginning at Hooniverse, with freelance work and a focus on cars and gaming, especially Forza, while balancing broader social commentary.
Fantastic Mr Star Fox (With Alanah Pearce)
Q: What inspired you to start Charred Pictures and bridge indie game development with film and TV?
Alanah explains that living in LA and making friends in Hollywood revealed how little the film/TV world understands about games, which motivated her to create a structure that keeps developers in control of their IP while leveraging fans and content creators as collaborators and funders.
