  • The waypoint b team

Still definitely has its moments and the streaming content is often still fun, but the podcast just doesn’t justify its runtime anymore. Janet and Patrick are great across the board, Rob has some great insights when he isn’t self indulgently rambling about being a cartoon version of himself (which is most of what he does now), Chia is….here (great editor, fine streamer, knows a lot about certain genres of games, great writer, doesn’t add much to the podcast), I was so stoked when Danika came ba... more

  • Isn’t worth it anymore 😔

Listened since the beginning of the waypoint days and unfollowed the show today 3/4/26 😭 breaks my heart to say goodbye after this many years. we had a good run but it’s just …uninteresting now. I agree wholeheartedly with the politics of the show and I like the people on it, they just seemed to have lost that sauce of how to make it interesting to the listener.

I’m glad they didn’t get the waypoint name, it would be the way I feel about Giant Bomb today

  • born after ‘97? probably not for you

mostly inoffensive, sometimes charming! but if you have no familiarity with waypoint/weren’t invested in their particular subset of late-2010s twitter parasociality, all you’re left with is millennials giving the same takes on the same games & news that you can find on any other podcast/games publication homepage. it’s at its best when doing deep dives into niche war games or dumb corporate heuristics, but is mostly 2 1/2 hrs of the hosts reading their bluesky feeds followed by a hollow “fight t... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"Who Cares About the Lore?" with Duncan Fyfe
Q: So Duncan, welcome to the show. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for writing the article. I guess to start us at the top, like are you that big an Elder Scrolls person, or did you just find the fact that it's world building is such a shit show that appealed to you?
Duncan explains his personal history with the series, how his exposure to Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim shaped his perspective, and frames the discussion around the world-building approach rather than its canonical polish.
Worth Reading: The World Is Now a Casino
Q: Why does this matter for the future of video game journalism and media in general?
Because it shows how SEO, monetization, and venture-capital-backed outlets influence reporting, potentially eroding trust; it also points to viable, reader-supported models and independent media initiatives that could sustain rigorous journalism without compromising integrity.
Worth Reading: The World Is Now a Casino
Q: What is the pitch of your piece and what were you trying to get at in your story for Aftermath?
The piece starts from a small Australian site sale and expands into a larger iceberg of ownership, affiliate gambling links, and AI-generated content; the goal is to reveal how these practices operate, who benefits, and what it means for journalism and readers.
Two Friends and a Naive Dream: Make a Cinematic Platformer
Q: What hidden advantages did you get by having a background in film and television when making a game, and what do you feel now looking back at Planet of Lana 2?
We reflect on transferable skills like production discipline, scheduling, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, acknowledging both naiveté and lifelong experience in moving from film to game development and how that shaped creative decisions.
Two Friends and a Naive Dream: Make a Cinematic Platformer
Q: Talk me through your process of being a writer on a game that does not have traditional dialogue, as you see in many other video games.
We explain how silence and visual storytelling push us to rely on showing rather than telling, with a constructed language and careful animation and music to convey emotion and narrative without conventional dialogue.
