  • Excellent reporting, entertaining show, give it a try!

I downloaded the Apple podcast app just to write this review (and then I will slink back to Overcast where I belong). This is a great podcast—engaging and well researched, the interviews are informative, I absolutely love the topic choices. It’s more like an audio magazine—so no episodes about the hot new games, but INSTEAD, you get episodes about why people make games, what the heck is going on with Atari, the state of the industry. It’s really fascinating and worth a couple of hours to try it ... more

  • For the enthusiasts and the curious

An interesting and informative podcast about video games. I was never interested in interview podcasts, but after listening to only two episodes of this one, I became a supporter. Chris is doing great work.

  • Relaxing and informative!

I am a full time American student preparing for an Internship in New Zealand. I am busy and stressed! Anything that is peaceful, well thought out, and informative is so welcome. Chris has such a calming and kind presence and having this in my ears while I’ve been playing Digimon World Time Stranger is holding me together. Thanks Chris!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Great Games Sometimes Flop (Simon Carless)
Q: Can a Steam sale or a really steep discount give a game with a poor launch a second shot?
Discounts can help but they won't fundamentally change a game's trajectory; they mainly help with drawing in existing wishlist users.
Why Great Games Sometimes Flop (Simon Carless)
Q: What is the biggest misconception about the work that you do as a game discovery consultant?
The biggest misconception is that he can fix people's problems immediately; in reality, many factors influence a game's success, and consultation focuses on long-term strategies.
Why Great Games Sometimes Flop (Simon Carless)
Q: What is game discoverability and why does it matter?
Game discoverability refers to how people find out about your game; it is crucial since people cannot buy a game if they do not know it exists.
The "Too Many Games" Problem (Jason Schreier)
Q: Are there positives to the oversaturation for the consumer?
From a customer perspective, this is great news. It's great to have this just wealth of choices in the games that we get to play.
The "Too Many Games" Problem (Jason Schreier)
Q: What's your case for that? Why is this such a big problem for video games?
The over saturation of the video game market is certainly a big problem. Nowadays, when you launch a new game, you're competing against so many other new releases.
