Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 3.4k ratings
  • Validation seeking and heavily edited.

If you are looking for objective discussion, this is not the podcast you are looking for. The conversations have great information and potential for healthy debate, however the audio is heavily edited when there are disagreeing views. It makes the conversation disingenuous and leaves me wondering what was cut out. The host is looking for validation and confirmation bias and I think that explains the 5 star reviews from other people that are also validated through the host’s perspective.

  • No one’s entire personality is made up of trauma responses

Before the host speaks with authority on complexities of the origins of personality disorders, she should have done more research. And for her to say that one’s entire personality can be made up of trauma responses is so diminutive and such an insult. We are much more than our trauma complex or otherwise. If I were a potential guest of her show, I would be wary of agreeing to partake lest I be treated rudely if she didn’t agree with what I have to say

  • Wild

I was floored by how rude this woman can be towards some of the guests she invites on her show. She invites them just to argue her point and discount theirs. Whyyy?

I am really not understanding the 5 star reviews at all.

  • Great Podcast, Too Many Commercials

Great podcast but I feel the commercials at the beginning is so obnoxious. I’m 11 minutes in and they’re still going!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

233 - The Gift of Grief: When Loss Becomes the Door You Couldn't Open On Your Own w/ Joe Ryan
Q: Here's what I want to ask you. So you've done a lot of sitting and grieving and sitting in your emotions. What was different about this last stretch?
Joe explains that pre-work done earlier in life and a deeper self-commitment allowed him to engage with grief more fully, reducing the compulsive self-punishment and enabling more authentic connection as the loss unfolded.
234 - Wired for Abandonment: How Somatic Work Heals What Talk Therapy Can't w/ Valerie Rubin
Q: Can you walk us through how you went from hypnotherapy to embracing somatic work, and what that shift meant for addressing abandonment wounds?
The guest explains that hypnotherapy helped uncover core beliefs but needed to be paired with nervous system regulation and somatic work to address the bodily impact of trauma. They emphasize building safety in the body first, using techniques like regression work carefully, then integrating inner-child work and somatic strategies to rewire responses and reduce dependence on external factors for safety.
231 - Why Your Relationships Keep Triggering You Even After You've Done the Work w/ Patrick Teahan
Q: What's actually going on with the partner who's impatient with the process?
The guest explains that impatience from a partner often stems from differing levels of readiness for healing, projections about therapy, or a lack of understanding of trauma work. He emphasizes that therapy is a process, not a quick fix, and that partners need to be educated and supported as their loved one undergoes deep work.
230 - The Shame Triangle: The Inner War That's Keeping You Stuck w/ Jessica Fern & David Cooley
Q: How does the transition from the inner critic to an inner coach work in practice?
The process involves recognizing the critic's impact, then engaging in an inner restorative justice dialogue where the critic acknowledges its role, listens to how it affected others, and then renegotiates its approach. Over time, the critic transforms into an inner coach that holds standards and ethics but uses encouragement and support rather than demolition, creating a more compassionate self-governance.
230 - The Shame Triangle: The Inner War That's Keeping You Stuck w/ Jessica Fern & David Cooley
Q: Can you explain what the Shame Triangle is and how it differs from the classic Drama Triangle?
The Shame Triangle keeps the same three roles—inner critic (persecutor), shame (victim), and escapers (rescuer)—but relocates them inside the person. The inner critic is the internalized voice, shame is what absorbs and believes those messages, and escapers are the avoidance strategies that push back against the pain. This inside-out mapping helps people see how these parts interact and sustain patterns, rather than focusing on external actors.
