  • John is a passionate film buff who approaches cinema from a somewhat populist perspective. He's actively engaged with indie fests and does a great job of giving POC the spotlight. Highly recommend.

  • Not a favorite

I didn’t enjoy this podcast. It meanders, the host takes forever to say stuff, and it seems very surface level. No real insight, a lot of just repeating the plot. There are much better review podcasts out there.

  • A Must Listen for Fans of Stuff!

Seriously, John and his energetic band of weekly guests cover a breadth of topics including cinema, video games, pop culture, etc - and the best part is they don't take themselves too seriously like your ordinary, outdated, snooty critics. When podcasts started poppin' up EVERYWHERE, I never imagined wanting to listen to something that long. In this case, I was wrong - not only are the topics and opinions informative and entertaining...they actually keep things moving along and engage. There's a... more

  • Classy Cinephile w/out the Snobbery

John and his rotating crew of co-hosts bring an awesome energy to my podcast feed every week. It's unlike anything else I listen to and that's mostly because of the passion he infuses into everything he discuses. John is knowledgeable without being pretentious, and is also one of the best interviewers I've ever heard. You can expect lots of laughts, too, as the crew never take themselves too seriously. Absolutly a must listen film & entertainment podcast. Add this one to your feed today!

  • An Aficionado of Geek Chic

I had the disctinct pleasure of meeting John at a cultural event in the arts district of Vancouver! Afterward, I truly enjoyed listened to his podcast. I'm hooked! He's insightful, knowledgeable, probing, a true Renaissance Man – not to mention, he has a beard of legends. Covering topics from pop culture, movies, the new golden age of television, web series, gaming, cocktails - he's an aficionado of geek chic! I look forward to meeting John again someday to discuss our favorite creature actor an... more

I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by John during the Vancouver Web Fest this year. He asked me and my collaborators truly thoughtful questions and his welcoming, good-humored vibe made it so easy to open up to him! I really appreciated his level of preparedness for our sit-down as well -- it was clear he had done his research. Great dude. Great podcast.

  • He's a great guy!

I'm a recent convert to listening to That Guy Named John, after meeting him at the Vancouver Webfest. He's a great host who is not only articulate and engaging, he's great at getting a few layers deep into conversation with his guests, when others may only be able to scratch the surface or fluffy stuff. So I'm going through the back catalogue and catching up while I stand by for new episodes!

    Thanks John!
